I realize food prices have gone up, but have you looked at crab meat lately?

I’m talking Phillips crab meat and the like. The stuff is insane. Was going to make seafood gumbo thus week, but I reckon I will be doing chicken & sausage instead.

Seems like you could find boiled crabs much cheaper. $24/dozen here. Pick some crabs.

Yep, that's about the price. Got 2 lbs of jumbo lump today for about that. Boiled were 40 bucks a dozen. No way I'm paying that for boiled to pick them and get a limited amount of jumbo lump.

The jumbo lump was above $40 not too long ago, so it's come down a bit.

Hopefully the ending of the emergency unemployment payments will help with the labor shortage and bring prices down.

I went to a blue crab boil in Savannah several years ago and screw picking crabs. It felt like a calorie-negative exercise getting enough meat out to sustain myself.

yes we know, every day we get another king crab costs $45 a pound post

boiled crabs have been selling for $20 a dozen for over a year now so thats not new. call around and find a better price

my rule of thumb is, if it cost more then steak, then i will just eat steaks

I love the way they taste, but I agree it is a huge pain. I'll still get them once or twice a year just to remind myself.

Tommy Citanovich (Drago's) was on WWL radio a couple of days ago talking about COVID stuff He said lump crabmeat used to be around $25 a pound, now it's $45. He said, at that price he'd have to charge $30 for a salad.

I bought a lb of pasteurized blue crab meat yesterday in Hammond for $27. I then went to Albertsons and saw they had 8oz jumbo lump for $19.99. Wow, $40/lb for the good stuff

Do you have a crabmeat au gratin recipe that you're willing to share? I can spend the money once in a while if it will wind up being amazing.

Yeah, I know it’s not what you are talking about exactly but king crab legs were $33.00/lb. at Costco today.
