Out of a bulk bin? Freeze it first for 24 hours to kill bacteria.

Hippies don't believe in freezers.

Like rice, pilaf, etc. Also grind it up and make a gluten free flour.

Nope. It's Pearl Quinoa, marketed by Alter Eco. The package has a bunch of green on it. Says by tearing it open, I'm improving the lives of small scale farmers and their families. I think I may also be supporting the reforestation of the Amazon.

Bills itself as "The Soul Food of The Andes"...which begs the question, will this go well with guinea pig? GG, you dig any guinea pig recipes? Lay some knowledge on me, sister. Peace...

I eat quinoa at least once a week. Use it instead of rice with red beans. Or cook in some broth and have as a side. Make a salad. Stuff some peppers. Eat it for breakfast. Here are a couple of recipes:

Rinse well.
Cook like rice but read directions for time/ water ratio.
If eating it plain, boiling in chicken or veg broth gives it extra flavor.
I use it as rice substitute in stuffed bell peppers.
I would say more soccer moms eat quinoa than hippies.

What are the benefits of quinoa over rice? Seems to have as much if not more carbs than rice.

Groovy, man.

I use one part quinoa to 2 parts liquid. Basic procedure I follow is to bring the mixture to a boil and then bake, covered, for 15 minutes at 350. Fluff it with a fork. That's the plain Jane version.

You can add whatever flavors you want and make it like a pilaf as someone suggested. I haven't done a saffron version, yet, but I'm going to.

I made a cold caprese dish with it, a few weeks ago. Just cooled it and added sliced grape tomatoes, fresh mozz and basil. I drizzled reduced balsamic over the servings.

I think you can use it in place of rice or orzo, for sure.

I've sweat some onions and garlic and then added the quinoa and chicken stock, seasoned and made it the usual way. I think stuffed peppers using it sounds good.

A friend of mine had the holiday quinoa recipe on the link below and loved it. I haven't tried it yet.
