Puttadaforkdown the stickied thread is where you need to be. Check through some of the last 10 pages or so and see some of the success stories. You can do it man. There is some very informed posters there. Good luck. Sounds like your on the right track

My buddy got similar news about a month ago. His main problem was attributed to being overweight. He did a 14 day raw diet (only consume fresh raw fruits and vegetables). He lost 30 lbs in those 2 weeks (starting weight was 300). He also purchased a bike and rode a few miles a day. He goes back to the doc soon, so i guess he will find out how much ithelped his cholesterol levels.

I'm sorry to hear that, Zilla. Investigate the quinoa we were talking about a few months ago to replace your side dish carb cravings. Lots of good stuff in it.
You can just start posting about some of the good healthy stuff you come up!

I have been on a low fat diet for the last year and a half. I also have to watch alcohol intake due to medicine I take. I still eat some fried food on occasion, after I got my diet better under control. Lots of good high protien meats you can cook healthy without becoming a total vegetarian. You will notice a big change, just by cutting out all the refined carbs in processed foods. I recommend reading the south beach diet book.

can't second this enough. I feel 100x better since i've been on a no carb/extremely low carb diet for the last two months. Never tired during the day, never groggy or cranky. Don't feel like I have lead in my shoes. And, even though I've lost 26 lbs, I started feeling better within the first week.
I'm a firm believer that carbs are the devil.
ETA: Also, cut out as much sugar as you can. Get your sugars from fruit and just say no to soft drinks, candy, cookies, cakes, etc. You may run into a sugar withdrawal phase. But, persevere and you will feel great. There's nothing like having real energy from eating a healthy diet of high protein meats, veggies, fruits, and nuts. Sure does beat the artificial sugar rush.

The good news it that, in my opinion, you don't have to go on an extreme, strict and very specific diet (unless there is a specific medical reason related to specific foods). It's no secret that it's all about moderation. I honestly believe that a written out specific "diet" and drastic specific requirements or limitations for each day is a recipe' for failure for most people in the long term. What you want to do is modify your diet so that you can enjoy it for the rest of your life. Make it more of a lifestyle change that you can actually enjoy, and I think you'll be more successful.
But definitely you'll want to cut way down on the sugar, fried foods and red meat. And, yes, too many refined carbs are not good, nor are heavily processed foods.
And regular exercise is also key. When it comes to exercise, try to find something you enjoy doing. You don't have to become a marathon runner or, worse, a treadmill robot.

I'm not sure that a juicer is a good idea
Unless you keep it to more veggies than fruits
Otherwise you might as well be injecting sugar into your bloodstream

Funny how no one ever thinks of juice this way
It's precisely what juice is

Never understood the fascination with juice either. Drinking calories is never the way to go. And you miss out on the fiber.

If I wanted to gain more weight, I'd buy a juicer

I'm going to bike, run, lift weights in the AM, and I'd love to find a 2nd raquetball partner that would play once a week at ketchum with me...only costs $6

You think that's high?
I had you beat by a long shot at one point. Really just limit the alcohol especially well before the test. And everything in moderation. I'm actually doing great now and numbers are normal.
I can tell you outside appearance wouldn't indicate a problem. I've hit over 300 on tris before and 157 on LDL. All of this while under a 26 BMI. Oh, and watch out for day 2-3 of juicer if doing the juice diet. Stay within 50 feet of toilet at all times because the warnings can be less than 30 seconds.

I am going to just say this once...
You need to research the "science" behind the connection behind cholesterol/heart disease, what cholesterol is, where it comes from, etc.
And also the "Lipid Hypothesis".
Do some reading on these topics, from both sides of the argument, take what your own doctor says with a grain of salt, and then make an informed decision as to how important some of these numbers really are.
Edit:
And I have done most of what you list here, but not the juicing. You need to chew your food. You need the fibre in the fruit, not just the high calories from the juice. Anyway, I'm not shitting any more frequently.

You can't really stop it. Juicing daily coupled to exercise and rehydrating with water, is gonna make your cells puke out toxins and fat, you're gonna feel great. But, will occasionally sh!t like a goose.
Drinks with Cantaloupe, Honey Dew, Parsley, Wheat Grass,etc..are gonna clean you out.
