Why the hell do they have to put this crap in Italian sausage? shite tastes like black licorice. Does anyone actually like the taste of fennel seeds?

I love licorice, but can't stand caraway or fennel seeds in savory foods.........especially sausage.

I hate fennel seeds too and have brought it up on here before. Apparently there are some in the closet fennel seed lovers on the F&DB though because they always downvote but never comment.

I’m of two minds about fennel. Don’t like the overdosed Italian American sausages too full of fennel seed....a little goes a long way.
Do like it in a mixed seasoning like herbes de Provence to season a roasted chicken or pork loin. Do like it in a spice mix to flavor black tea for masala chai, or in a multiseed topping for bagels or bread.
Used with a sparing hand, it’s not bad.

I don't downvote, but I like them. I understand why other folks don't, though. I use ground fennel in recipes quite often so folks won't get the whole seeds, but they don't bother me.

I love fennel seeds. When I roast cauliflower in the oven, I sometimes sprinkle fennel seeds in the pan, too. I've also used fennel seeds in tuna salad, but it's been awhile.

When I cook Italian sausage by steaming first and then browning, I always add fennel seeds to the water in the skillet.

They use to put these on Tostinos pizzas I’m pretty sure. Never knew what they were until this thread.

I like fennel ok. I love the Italian pork roast recipe in Donald Link's book.

Yep, they sure do.
Fennel seeds are my kryptonite. Just the thought of them makes me sick.

Anise seed or licorice for me

They're awful. Maybe if they were ground and used to season throughout they could be tolerable in small doses. But biting into one is awful. Folks your entire sinus cavities with funk. Same with caraway; I love rye bread but getting increasingly harder to find unseeded rye.

Italian sausage has fennel
If you don't like fennel you don't like Italian sausage

Agree with Darla and Gris Gris. Like fennel and use it in many dishes, especially pork.
Loved licorice as a kid, used to get Good N' Plenty at the movies.
