re: How do you feel about restaurants adding a 15% order surcharge?

Why don't you wait and see what the place does before complaining about something you think they might do but haven't done yet?
Any other rules we should follow in this thread since you’re just knighting for your friends at Superior?

Meh, a big part of my dine in bill is alcohol, so picking up ends up being about 50% of a regular meal.
And this is the beauty of our system. People can choose of the 15% tip or whatever is acceptable to them and the restaurant can adjust their strategy as needed.
Usually when I pick up food, it's not like it's high dollar stuff. Maybe $30 at the most. Considering I will usually leave $2 or $3 anyway, I don't think a standard 15% is going to break me.

That's just it. Not many people tip on takeout, so they added the charge to offset that since so much of their staff is currently on takeout orders indefinitely. Feel free to not tip since you are already paying 15%. Nobody is saying you must.

Stop serving takeout during a lockdown because a small % of people are offended by a service charge? Why not just not go?

This doesn't even make sense in the context of what you quoted. You're bitching about something that nobody has done because you think it might happen. I said why not just wait and see what happens and whether the charge will be permanent? Fail to see how that is a rule. It was a question.

Do whatever you want to stay in business currently as long as you adequately disclose it. Consumers have done a decent bit to help keep local establishments afloat, but in 18 months they'll be a lot less receptive to ~96% of the cost of a dine-in meal & its 20% tip, which doesn't even include the cost of a takeout tip. Throw a few dollars in for a takeout tip, and you're now paying more for takeout than dine-in, which ain't going to work for the average customer.

Well, we have no indication the 15% is permanent and it says it is a limited time thing on the menu.

The thread is about a charge currently taking place during the virus. If we are moving the goalpost to be about a hypothetical 15% charge during normal times when takeout has resumed inside the restaurant as normal, by all means revisit the topic
EDIT - I see you were replying to my personal opinion that takeout should have a premium at all times. That's just my opinion and in no way something these places seem to intend on doing.
I just personally think there should be a % on takeout orders labeled "convenience charge" and people can just not tip at all. Then nobody has to worry about tipping or not tipping, and the employee is still guaranteed compensation for the shift in the form of the employer paying them a decent hourly wage.

I didn't respond to the thread; I responded to your post referencing making this a permanent addition to any takeout order.
Carry on. I just think your takeout volume would be pretty much 0 if you charged as much for takeout as dine-in at anything more upscale than a wing joint.
