It depends on the crust. New York style has to be pie sliced. My favorite pizza has a crispy, flakey pastry-style crust and is cut in squares. A slice cut pie style might break.

For chain pizza, normal if hand tossed or pan, square if thin crust. And it doesn't matter how you cut deep dish because I won't eat that glob of cheese and soupy sauce.
The best are the rectangles I get at a local place. They cook them on giant baking sheets, and slice them into large rectangles. You can get 2 and a salad for $8, or 4 slices for $10. My wife and I used to split the 4 for lunch. Not many places you can get a great lunch for $5 each.
This is the T-Bone, which is thinly sliced potatoes and prosciutto.

Depends on the location. I'd take the Johnny's in Jonesborro or Hodge...not sure which it's considered to be and most in North La over BJ's. BJ's is definitely better than the BR and St Mart locations though.
Just like I didn't think Deano's was anything special the first time I had it, Deano's South, went to the Bertrand location and if they didn't have the same name you wouldn't know it was the "same" pizza. The two locations are not even close to being on the same level IMO.

It's funny you say something like this. I've eaten at all of the Johnny's in the Baton Rouge area and I'll be damned if they taste as good as the one I grew up eating in Ruston or Monroe. It's just not the same tasting pizza.
To answer the OP I prefer the normal way but I'm okay with the way Johnny's does it. On thin crust my kids like it cut up in small rectangle size pieces. That's not my preference but it will eat I suppose.
