Thai Gourmet is awesome. But don't EVER order anything more than "hot" in that place.

bullshite it's been the same in both cities. It's been in both forever and went mainstream recently. Don't give me that shite. I've lived in both cities and I could totally see Houston being better than NOLA. However in be last 10 years NOLA has really diversified from just creole food. Look at the awards Peche and Shaya have received in the last few years. This is just a few examples of how food is changing in NOLA. And it's not just NOLA where I've seen this new trend. Nashville, Charleston, etc all have had a change in the food scene recently. When I lived in Houston I always had places I had to hit when I visited NOLA and couldn't keep up with all the new places opening. I can say the same thing about Houston today. I'll be in Houston this weekend and I just don't have enough time to try the long list of places I want to go. What makes NOLA better IMO is they have their own foods and didn't have to import them.

If your dad wanted Goode Co BBQ...I'd say meh, good baked beans though.
If your dad wanted Goode Co Seafood....I'd say your dad has damn good taste. There isn't a lot in the city that beats a campechana extra and a plate of fried green tomatoes.

I had friends in the New Orleans area eating Vietnamese cooking 15+ years ago. I didn't like it much back then though. It has become more popular in the last 10 years or so but I'm sure it is the same in Houston.
New Orleans, Houston, and Mobile all have large Vietnamese populations. I should definitely know about that. They took over the seafood industry 20+ years ago.

You'd think people would learn with them having posted signs around the restaurant and a disclaimer on every page of the menu about no refund if the food is too hot for you.
That being said I don't order higher than 2/5 on their scale. PLENTY of heat.

I will gladly concede Vietnamese to Houston and don't know why anyone in New Orleans is bothering to contest it. I notice though that Larry ignored my comment about the number of nationally decorated restaurants in New Orleans surpassing those in Houston. He keeps harping on the same beignets and po boy bullshite, making me question when the last time he's actually been to New ORleans and where he ate.
