angler knows what he's talking about here. Banh Xeo from Thien An is one of the great treats of midtown. Hell, a $2.75 banh mi thit nuong with a fried egg (ask for a runny yolk) from Les Givrals is instant heaven.
i'd insert Thien Thanh for banh cuon, Pho Duy for mi quang, A Ly for roast duck, Don's Sandwiches, Tay Do for family style, Pho Dien, Phanh Ky for hu tieu noodles and the list goes on and on. The variety of what houston vietnamese cuisine has to offer puts it over the top.

I went to Dak & Bop last night because of the article. Man that's a solid spot. Empanadas, fried chicken and homemade pickles were all incredible.

Still, Killens is better than any BBQ in Louisiana and it's not even close, and they can actually serve more than 2 dozen people each day.

It's the diversity, I know you don't want me to bring asian food into this but the Vietnamese, Indian, Chinese, and Koreans each have their own little section of town that has a TON of options. Within China town they have all sorts of sub-sets of countries, I'm not going to even pretend to be knowledgeable about it because it is quite a large area - but a Malaysian place did catch my eye with the number of people dining there. I haven't identified a Thai section of town, but by all standards Thai Gourmet on Richmond is better than anything the state of LA has to offer.
I haven't eaten at any of those N.O. BBQ places, but I'm willing to bet Goode Co. does a better job, lol. Could go on and on with genre examples but like I said, I concede beignets, po boys, creole, and cajun food.

Eh, laugh emogie all you want, but it's not like you weren't going to Vietnamese places in the 80's. None of ya'll were. It wasn't popular in N.O. until recently. A totally different thing in Houston than in N.O.
*and pretty much all Asian cuisines as well. Sorry, New Orleans couldn't touch anything Houston has going on in Asian cuisine.

My Dad hadn't been back to Houston in 15 years and I asked where he wanted to go eat and his answer was Goode Co. You can't argue with stubborn old people so all I did was laugh to myself.
