I get "indian spicy" for any of the peppery dishes.
They always ask if I'm sure.
It is usually at the very edge of being painfully hot. And that's from someone who puts reaper hot sauce on anything you'd put louisiana on.
For me, the joys of indian foods are trying everything. When we got we order a bunch of entrees and keep our rice separate.

Any cuisine could be hotter in theory
But Thai is probably the only one that comes to mind as competing with the two you mentioned... although most Mexican isn't really that hot

My son's best friend is Indian, and vegetarian. So, this gives me SO many more options when he stays over. I bet he gets tired of cheese pizza.

I stick to BR unfortunately....mainly Swagat and once in a while the gas station place in Hammond, both are good. Waiting for Swagat to bring back the lunch buffet but the box lunches they do, $7.99 veg, $8.99 chicken and $9.99 lamb or goat are killer and they found a niche in this pandemic. Had the goat curry box last time and it was heavenly.

I've been to Nirvana in New Orleans and Shyan's in Metairie.
Both were good, nothing to really complain about either way.

Update on visit two:
Got the paneer cheese dish thing....not a super big fan. But not the fault of the restaurant at all. It was good. Just not my jam.
Wife got the butter chicken, it was outstanding, just like me first visit.
Older child got some fish cake appetizers....had a green sauce that was great.
Younger child got the malai chicken, he loved it.
Pesto Naan and butter naan.
Service issues have been addressed and corrected. Greeted as soon as entered restaurant, sat at a booth, ordered promptly, food was a little slower than last but perfectly acceptable. Food was all hot, fresh, and tasty. Order was correct and glasses were kept full.
