I need to figure out how to make my rice less gummy. Sometimes it is worse than others. Do I need to wash my rice?
I cooked this in some pork stock per usual and it is gummy as hell. [/img]

^^^ CRUCIAL when cooking with something that tends to make your water oily... like pork. It's an easy fix, though.

Boil your rice for 18 minutes then drain in a colander.

Cooked too long with too much liquid.

Sauté grains in a little oil before pouring water in. Boil water out until pockmarks form in top, then put top on and turn heat to low and steam it.

Sometimes you can save gummy rice by putting an 1/8 th cup of warm olive oil in it and stirring like a mad man.

I swear to God I don't want to be an a-hole, but I cannot for the life of me understand why people have trouble cooking rice. It has to be one of the easiest things in the book.

Regular long grain rice is easy
I still have trouble with jasmine rice.

I learned to cook rice from my El Salvadorian friend's mother.
1.5:1 ratio water to rice
pre-measure water and set aside. put the rice in the pot you intend on cooking it in and cover with water. Agitate the rice with your hand and then drain completely. repeat this step two to three more times. After final rinse add the pre-measured water and heat rice and water on high until water begins to boil. stir contents, put the lid on, and lower the flame to maintain a slow simmer. 20 minutes later remove pot from heat and let stand (still covered) 10 more minutes. remove lid, fluff with a fork and serve. I know 30 minutes seems like a ling time to cook rice but I have been cooking rice with this method for over 20 years now and it has never failed.

This. Cup of water per 3/4 cup of rice in rice cooker. Easy

The easiest way to make good rice is to cook it like you would spaghetti noodles. 4 cups of water...1 cup of rice...uncovered until it gets to the consistency you want. According to an earlier post that's 18 minutes.
Drain in a collender.

2:1 water to rice. Bring water to a boil, add the rice, turn down the heat, and cover the pot. Don't lift the cover for 20 minutes. Fluff with a fork, no need to drain.

Put rice in pot. Cover with water plus 3/4" or so. Boil until water is to the top of the rice, lower heat and cover.
Literally the easiest thing to cook, though my wife can't seem to make it work.
