Sundays are my planning day. It does seem work intensive at first, but once you get the hang of it you'll fall into a system.

Pay attention to portion control. For me this is always the most difficult of starting a diet. The first week is rough, because the body needs to adjust to eating the proper amount of food. If you like coffee, drink it. This will help curb appetite. Once your body adjusts, you'll notice that you don't overeat anymore.

Also, download "MyNetDiary" app. It tracks tells you your target daily calories based on your target weight and date, and it tracks everything you eat. It's a great app. It has just about every food out there in its database. I suggest double checking some foods though, because I have found some things have improper numbers. It's not a perfect app, but it's very good overall. You can even add your customized foods in it.

Why not bananas?

My downfall is craft beer. These mavens have made me pudgy here. I'm just going to have to give it up for a couple months.

Because the keto shock enthusiasts push no carbs like a religion. Sure it works, but it is completely unnecessary and depriving the body of some important nutrients. Why eliminate fiber (a carb) when you can still eat it and lose the weight? Makes no sense to me

Not necessarily. You just have to limit them. My limited carbs per day come from vegetables and nuts. I just try to keep it under 20g of carbs/day.

Also, as I understand it, once you're in ketosis, you need to stay there and not keep going in and out of it as it isn't good for your kidneys. I think that's part of the reason to watch the carbs.

No you don't. I lost 30 pounds this year and my craft beer consumption didn't change by a whole lot. Sure, I try to stick to the 2 beers per night guideline. That 3rd beer is usually my downfall, because I get to feeling good which leads to the 4th and 5th beers. As long as I have a beer or two after work, and nothing to eat or drink after 8:00, I'm good. Went from 195 to 165. Move more, eat/drink less and lose weight. It's not rocket surgery.

That's fair. I'm not opposed to these diets as much as I feel why eliminate something you like when it's not necessary. Losing weight is quite simple really: consume less calories than what your body burns in a day. The trick is to minimize the empty calories. I still use 2tsp of sugar in my coffee, which I drink twice daily, and I compensate that with my other meal choices. I refuse to eliminate this, because I enjoy it too much.

I found that a lack of veggies gives me the runs like crazy twice a day. I've been doing pureed cauliflower with heavy cream and butter a lot and it's almost just like mashed potatoes. The hardest part I found was trying to get more fat than protein so I started putting heavy whipping cream in my coffee. It's pretty awesome.

indeed. My wife hated cauliflower... until I prepared it as mashed potatoes. She loves it now.

A great cauliflower recipe I use is this:

Olive oil
Onions
Garlic
Tumeric (not much... strong stuff)
saffron (even less lol)
salt
pepper

Saute the onions then garlic, and then add the CF for a few mins. Toss in the rest of the seasoning and coat all the CF. Stick in the oven and roast until desired tenderness. It's killer stuff. A little lemon juice doesn't hurt neither

OP, I got married this year. Did whole30 with the fiancee who is now my wife. What dnm3305 is telling you is exactly right only Whole30 takes it to the extreme. The key is eating well enough and exercise. You can't out exercise a bad diet after the age of 25. If you shame eat a large pizza. Don't get down. Wake up the next morning and start again.

Lost 18 lbs in a month on Whole30.

I still don't understand the "no beans" part of these diets

There are two big things about legumes. 1st is that they cause inflammation for the majority of people. 2nd is that the calorie intake is high for the amount of nutrients you get out of them.

It's not that they are bad for you. It's just that there are better options nutritionally. I would agree that destroying a plate of red beans and rice is better than most shite people eat.

This. You don't have to give up the things you really love, but you have to make up for it elsewhere. I like beer too much to give it up in order to lose weight, so I have to sacrifice something somewhere else, either in consumption or more exercise (or both).

I drink beer about 5 nights a week. Compensation and planning are the key. I love beer.

When I do the no dairy thing, I go with full fat coconut milk. It's actually pretty good and the only way I can make it 30 days without Splenda.

I get that but i hate the "I cannot eat healthy since it's a expensive argument " and beans are often my response to that

Natural food from the edges of the grocery store and nothing from the middle.

-High protein and high fat meats that you cook on your own, don't buy precooked or frozen stuff if you have the time and can do it on your own. That doesn't mean don't buy a rotisserie chicken, those are fine and are convenient, this means don't buy that Jennie-O "turkey" loaf frozen bullshite and think youre eating turkey.

-Any vegetable you like - carrots, squash, onions, peppers, cauliflower, broc, greens, avocado, green beans, snap peas, asparagus, etc. Roast them, grill them, saute' them, steam them, eat them raw dipped in hummus, etc.

-Find out where your maintenance calories are, then put yourself at a 200-300 calorie deficit. You should gradually lose the weight, it's a marathon not a sprint. Shoot for .5-1.0 lbs per wk. If you factor in lifting weights (not just cardio) then don't necessarily pay attention to the scale as it can be deceiving. Use the mirror, the way your clothes fit, and overall how you feel as indicators of your progress. You could gain muscle mass and bodyweight from lifting but lose bodyfat giving you the leaner look youre after.

best advice here. Make a lifestyle change don't do some dumbass diet. Look into iifym

Every diet my wife has put us on has had a no alcohol rule. I've broken that with every one and still lost weight every time. Whole30 claims alcohol makes you make bad food choices. It simply doesn't for me. I actually eat less when drinking beer, and since the wife is following it strictly, there are no bad choices in the house.

Appreciate all the responses.

I saw a couple people posted recipes which I will be trying. If anyone else has some healthy recipes, don't be afraid to post. I'm sure I will be eating plenty of salads and chicken/fish but if you have some healthy recipes I would appreciate if you post them.

If tacos are a bad food choice, then I don't want to make good choices.
