Healthy food options for weight loss

I'm about to start up a diet trying to lose around 20 lbs. I'm not overweight but just trying to lean out.
What are some good food options from the FDB? I would prefer this boards opinion over a website. TIA

Cut out rice, potatoes, pasta and bread, then eat whatever else you want.

Natural food from the edges of the grocery store and nothing from the middle.
-High protein and high fat meats that you cook on your own, don't buy precooked or frozen stuff if you have the time and can do it on your own. That doesn't mean don't buy a rotisserie chicken, those are fine and are convenient, this means don't buy that Jennie-O "turkey" loaf frozen bullshite and think youre eating turkey.
-Any vegetable you like - carrots, squash, onions, peppers, cauliflower, broc, greens, avocado, green beans, snap peas, asparagus, etc. Roast them, grill them, saute' them, steam them, eat them raw dipped in hummus, etc.
-Find out where your maintenance calories are, then put yourself at a 200-300 calorie deficit. You should gradually lose the weight, it's a marathon not a sprint. Shoot for .5-1.0 lbs per wk. If you factor in lifting weights (not just cardio) then don't necessarily pay attention to the scale as it can be deceiving. Use the mirror, the way your clothes fit, and overall how you feel as indicators of your progress. You could gain muscle mass and bodyweight from lifting but lose bodyfat giving you the leaner look youre after.
-Don't avoid delicious shite. It's OK to have a beer or three on the weekends. Bacon and eggs are good for you. Eat a steak often. Cook with butter and throw margarine away. Enjoy everything you eat. If you enjoy what youre eating then it will become a lifestyle and not a "diet". Don't sweat falling off the wagon and devouring a pizza. Shoot to eat within your healthy limitations 90% of the time. Good luck.

I still don't understand the "no beans" part of these diets

Me neither - fiber, protein, good fat, nutrients, delicious. Beans are the magical fruit.

what is your day to day meals looking like right now?

Count calories. This is your best approach. The wife (post baby) and I have been dieting for a few weeks now, and we are losing 2lbs/wk on average. Here's what we have been eating:
Turkey taco (use Alton Brown taco seasoning recipe; minimal calories)
- put over baked potato rather than a tortilla
- or make a spinach salad with it
Chicken breasts seasoned with Cavendar's Greek seasoning or lemon pepper
-grilled (must use oil for this, so I don't do it much)
-baked
-crock pot with lime juiced, salsa and above taco seasoning
Rump or Eye of Round Roast (this is lean as opposed to chuck)... throw in crock pot with 2 cups beef broth and a jar of banana peppers. this is seriously good.
- as with turkey taco, we put over potato
Soups:
-Lentil
-Cabbage and potato
Turkey meatloaf (turkey, oats instead of bread, salt, pepper, worchestershire, 1 egg every 2lb meat)
PLENTY of veggies. We do cabbage, brussels, broccoli and such. Keep it to the fibrous veggies and you'll be fine.
I disagree with others who say stay away from carbs and such. As long as you count calories, you will be able to eat good and be full without compromising much. You do want to minimize your carbs and fats, but you don't need to eliminate them. A good trick to know is 1 meat to two veggies.
Measure EVERYTHING. This is the main drawback of calorie counting, but it is required. Get a good scale, and measure and record everything you put into your body.
ETA: DON'T EVER skip breakfast. It is required to jumpstart your metabolism. I eat the following:
-Egg white sandwich on Dave's Bread (thin sliced... 60cal/slice) with mustard and olive oil mayo (50cal/tbs... I use 1tsp and rest mustard)
-oats... again, I don't recommend a carb free diet. It's not necessary, and fiber (a carb) is immensely important for both health and staying full. Carb free is not necessary as long as you are calorie counting.

-Drink only water and black coffee.
-Cut out any and all carbs (bread, potatoes, rice).
-Obviously don't eat anything fried or processed.
-Eat grilled chicken and fish and veggies (don't douse in butter or any sauce).
-Sparingly eat fruits (high in sugar). Don't eat bananas.
-Exercise.
ETA: If you're going to eat carbs, do it in the morning. I recommend baking a sweet potato and having it for the morning. Don't have any carbs after breakfast.

Been doing the keto thing for about 3 weeks. Lost 12 lbs so far with no overly active exercise routine.

Thanks for the info.
I don't plan on eliminating carbs out the diet. Need them as energy for workouts.
May tryout that turkey meatloaf.

i think paleo is the easiest way to drop pounds in a pretty quick fashion. get a cookbook and start making some recipes. I like quinoa as a good replacement for rice. just basically cut out sodas and limit beer imo. losing weight is pretty easy just track what you eat and get your calories burned per day online and just have a deficit. you don't even have to do cardio to lose weight but i would recommend being active at least 30 minutes a day.

Right now I don't have a plan in action so my meals are terrible. I'm looking to start a meal plan tomorrow. There will definitely be cheat days(LSU game days)but would like to keep them to a minimum.

Because the keto shock enthusiasts push no carbs like a religion. Sure it works, but it is completely unnecessary and depriving the body of some important nutrients. Why eliminate fiber (a carb) when you can still eat it and lose the weight? Makes no sense to me
Eat beans! They are good for you. They do have a high calorie count, but that's ok; they will keep you full and moving.
