If you're into history, you probably already have your list of places where the Brits store things they borrowed.

I wasn't there in October, but you can easily spend entire afternoons walked along the riverfront, eating, stopping in pubs, etc., if the weather is OK.

It'd be helpful if you provided interests, duration of stay, etc.

Great recs above.

Barrafina - does Spanish food better than many places in Spain.

Noble Rot - they have around 3 of them now. Most recently I went to the one in Soho which leans French. If you are into wine, grab a copy of their magazine. Tremendous place.

Bao - tiny spot with great Asian dumplings and such.

Maison French - good pre theater spot. Gorgeous space.

Cinnamon Bazaar - good Indian, but did prefer Dishoom.

Pubs - Blackfriars, the Grenadier, the Nags head, the lamb and the flag, ye Olde Cheshire Cheese. Really love the Grenadier, but hard to find but worth it. Gordon’s wine bar also worth a stop.

I’m omitting a lot for the sake of brevity.

Vera Swamy for Indian. There are a million options but I believe this is the oldest one in the city.
St John - made British food cool
Sketch for a brunch or tea. Really neat atmosphere.
Dukes hotel bar for the best martinis on the planet
And You have to go to a Sunday roast. I went to Guinea grill but there are plenty of options.

Had an incredible meal at St. John Smithfield. Get the beef and kidney pie with bone marrow.

Dishoom

Was coming to say this. Fantastic experience from the queue through the food. It started raining and they brought out umbrellas and chai for everyone.

Also it's sort of cliché/trendy these days but tea at Sketch is cool.

Beautiful and historic restaurant with delicious food and a great bar upstairs. On Maiden Lane just off the Strand near Covent Garden.

Scotts
Seafood specialist in Mayfair. Like a juced up G.W. Fins.

Those are my two favorites.

I second Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese.

Also recommend The Mayflower across the River in Rotherhilde.

Whatever you do, make sure you get a traditional Sunday roast dinner somewhere. Prime rib, roasted root veggies, mashed taters, Yorkshire pudding. Amazing.
