What is a butt tenderloin?

It's happened to me before too. Not at Rouse's but more than likely some dumbass shopper/worker placed it back on the shelf after it had been out too long. Really nothing the siore could have done to prevent it. I shop ai Rouse's all the time and have always found their quality to be A+

I'm sure it's already trashed but if you would have brought the package and meat back to the store you could've been refunded. Happened to me on a twin boston butt pack from piggly-wiggly and they took it back.
Also my mother-in-law dropped a few bottles of wine she bought from Rouses that didn't get double bagged. Father-in-law brought the broken bottles with the seal and cork in place and the manager at the Thibodaux Rouses replaced the bottles.

Yep. I forgot to mention that I called the grocery store and talked to the manager. He ended up refunding my purchase the next day.

I just wished I would have kept the receipt or the store "sticker" because that was a "stinky $45 butt waste"
You can't tell if the meat is shite because it looks like a bloody bag of meat

A lot of you will disagree but, your beef wasn't spoiled. The smell is anaerobic rot. The only bacteria that can grow in a hermetic environment are anaerobic bacteria. I wouldn't have throw it out unless it was turning green. The liquid in the plastic is the probable culprit. It's referred to as purge and is an indication that the meat has been wet-aged. The longer the beef is in its sealed environment, the more liquid (hemoglobin) will purge out. Just rinse it well, trim, and cook.

Well you are correct that it has the smell. If you buy a boneless cryovac leg of lamb it specifically says on the package that it will smell but the smell will go away within 10 seconds. It is the same with pork. I've bought them and it does indeed go away within seconds.
However I did buy a pork butt from Rouses not long ago and had the butcher take the bone out. It smelled bad when he rewrapped it, but I took it anyway, opened at the house and drove back to get a refund. The BR manager told me they were having problems with the pork purveyor. Seems like they still are.
Open the package over the sink and rinse the meat with cool water and rinse the package as well. If the smell isn't gone within 20-30 seconds or so I would bring it back.
Oddly I've never experienced it with beef.

I have bought whole top sirloins in cryovac before and aged them in my refrigerator for 21 days before--it does smell when you open it but I highly recommend it.
I like to take those whole sirloins and but them in about 3 lb steaks. I grill them and cross cut them to serve. It is very flavorful and a great value in beef.
I once visited with a manager at Vic and Anthony's and he told me they wet age their beef and did a taste test vs dry age and the tester could not pick which was which.
When you see those top sirloins on sale ask the butcher for a whole one still in the pack. He can tell the pack date and age it 3 weeks or so and you will be happy.

First, what is a butt tenderloin?
Second, I've gotten that smell several times with pork. Mostly with ribs for some reason, but also with a butt roast from time to time.

Are you sure it wasn't a sulphur smell? Cryovac pork smells like that from time to time. It should go away after you rinse it. If not it probably is spoiled.

Had the same issue twice with the Ponchatoula Rouses. Bought meat, got home and opened package only to get hit with shite smell.
Returned to store both times and had no problem getting a refund. It has made me a little weary about buying meat from there again.
