re: Anyone use a grass timmer extended handle?

I’ve got one of those knock off ones. It’s better than the stock handle but not the greatest. Been using it for months now and still trying to find a good position for it.

Get an HSA plan with the highest deductible allowed and contribute the max you can every year. Invest the money for long term growth and never use the money until you absolutely have to. The money is triple tax advantaged and if you die it goes into o your estate as an IrA would..
Do this. Our insurance was roughly $1200 a month for a family of 4 with a middle tiered plan. We hardly have to go to the Dr except for yearly checkups. Switched to high deductible plan with HSA. Premium per month is like maybe $4-500. We take the difference and max out HSA. So still getting close to the $1200/month taken out of monthly checks, but we have $8500/year going into an account we can invest in. Look at the max deductible and out of pocket costs and it’s probably close to the $8500.
We pay all healthcare costs out of pocket and save the receipts to reimburse ourselves. I don’t plan to use those until retirement date.
If you have a good local pharmacy use them instead of the chains. My wife’s Adderall is cheaper each month paying cash price rather than the price we were paying when we were using insurance.
Dentist and vision insurance is a scam too. Cash price for visits are close to the amount you pay for insurance for the year. Vision covers yearly eye exams and discounts on glasses or contacts. If you actually have an eye problem that’s considered medical and vision insurance doesn’t cover it. Your health insurance does, that’s if they except your health insurance.

NP school that is completely online is not accurate whatsoever. Maybe online for undergrad or even some graduate courses, but any NP has to have ~ 750 clinical hours of practice before even graduating school.
Come on man. This isn’t true, at least in Louisiana, which is the problem. I want to say that minimum, it’s about 500 maybe 520 hours of clinical/preceptorship here. There isn’t a good number of hours that is required and standardized for all states. Training also isn’t standardized ands measured correctly.
Some states allow full practice authority and some states only allow reduced and restricted authority.
You can’t tell me 1,000 hours, if that is actually required, is the same as doing a residency program. I’ve encountered MDs and DOs that have gone through the training and I would trust my life with and at the same time I’ve encountered them and APPs i wouldn’t.
There are definitely programs out there that are 90% or more online and you only have to show up 4 or less days during the whole program to graduate.
I’m an advocate for NPs and PAs, but I’m also realistic in our limitations.

Pay depends on work setting and can vary. I would say hourly pay is probably in the range of $60-80/hr maybe 90 an hour for a regular NP. I think $100/hr plus for psychiatric NP. Neonatal NPs I think do really well.
Most NPs will be in the $60-80/hr range. As far as I know emergency room NPs make the same no matter the amount of experience. New grad makes the same as someone with 20 years of experience unless they negotiated into their contract. Same goes for PAs. This is my experience working for two different groups in southeast Louisiana and talking to other APPs that have worked for other groups.
Pay changes depending on speciality and work setting. She should think about that before taking a job if she gets multiple offers when she graduates. I was offered a position with a lower base pay salaried position with performance/production bonus, which would probably end up being higher than I make now in the ER & urgent care setting, but I couldn’t see myself doing the job for the next 15+ years until retirement so I turned it down.
The income potential is there, but it just depends on what she’s willing to do/sacrifice to get there. During COVID, I was making the same as an rn as I’m making now, which of course was a special circumstance, but she could do travel nursing and make the same as an NP. It just depends on what kind of stability and family/home life she wants.
One last thing, FNPs aren’t technically trained to work in the hospital inpatient setting, so that is something she should keep in mind when finding a job. She can always go back to school for a post masters/doctorate certificate or take the required skills and educational CEs to sit for boards. State nursing boards haven’t cracked down on this yet, but I think there is a move in that direction coming. There’s some cases where NPs have lost their license or were fined/sanctioned, because they graduated with an FNP and worked as an inpatient provider.
re: Ideas: best or most memorable wedding gift you received
Posted by akimoto on 4/12/26 at 9:17 pm to financetiger
My go to wedding gift is a cutting board. If you’re somewhat handy you can make it yourself. Every wedding I go to now, I’ll bring one of the boards I make as a gift.

It’s pretty much an above ground pool that you sink into the ground, but have 4 foot ish walls around it. The deep end is dug deeper and has maybe a two inch slab and walls. You then install a linear over it which can be 32 mm thick.

Anybody every build their own pool or have a linear type pool installed? I am thinking about taking on this project. I feel like I am pretty handy. Can handle plumbing, electrical and gas.

I’ve had this setup for years, except mine doesn’t have the rack next to it. It’s been good for me. Did about 100 chicken wings using it for Super Bowl one year. Also have done fish fries. The burner also works well for wok frying or searing steaks on a cast iron skillet.
I’ve done reverse sear with sous vide steaks on it. I just rotate the pan 1/3 of the way around every 45 seconds and then flip. Steaks come out perfect.
About 5 minutes away from the scrap yard so it’s easier to get there than you. I have a 7 year old son that gets excited about recycling cans, because I give him the money we get back. He collects all of our cans and sometimes will remember to ask his uncles to save their cans for him. Big family of functional alcoholics over here.
Just trying to teach him that money doesn’t come free. He collects all the cans, pulls tabs to save for Ronald McDonald house or whatever charity Parkview collects tabs for. Then he crushes them with a pneumatic can crusher I bought him. He says it’s his most favorite toy. We’ve collected about $250 in 2 years, so not great but not terrible and it gives him something to work for.

Just got a check from the state of California for $4700. I didn’t have to submit any documents, but my wife needs something proof of address with her name on it. We lived in California for a couple of years and it looks like a class action lawsuit was filed when we worked there. Her claim is for about the same, but we lived there over 10 years ago. Trying to sift through old emails for a copy of a receipt or something.
First got the notice we had unclaimed money from some PI firm. They wanted ~$500 to help us claim it, but after a quick search I found out you can just go to the states lost money website yourself.

I have Farm Bureau now. Last 3 years since I finished building, I had 3 separate policies. Flood through FEMA for $1200/yr, Homeowners through Farm Bureau for $1400/yr, and Wind and Hail through Citizens for $6900/yr with just increased to $8100/yr.
Got in touch with my Farm Bureau agent and they are writing whole policies again. My new quote is for $5500/yr for homeowners and wind & hail. Farm Bureau is pricey but they have a good record of paying timely.
We also have car insurance through them. Not sure what kind of frickery is going on at Farm Bureau, but last year when I called to ask about adding a car to our plan, somehow we got better coverage along with 3 vehicles and for the same price we were paying for 2 vehicles prior to me calling. This will be the second time they tell me they have a “new” system that will help me save money.
Waiting on a quote from a local insurance broker to see what the difference is and who they find to write policies. I’ll try to remember to update once I get the new numbers.
Hope this helps.

re: Gas Line for 22kw Generac - Certain Length of Straight Run Required?
Posted by akimoto on 2/27/26 at 10:42 pm to Seven Costanza
My generator is not 8 ft from the meter maybe 3-4 feet at the most. I had a site plan drawn up and submitted to the parish for approval and they didn’t give me any trouble. I ran pipe from the meter along my walk and flexed it to the generator. Permit was approved and inspected by the parish without problems. Haven’t had any performance issues either. Ran through the ice storm 2 years ago without problems.
I had transfer switch installed when building and the meter was installed next to power when we built because I knew I would eventually install a generator. I ran gas myself and had a guy that installed generators hook up the wires once we were ready to install the whole unit. All permitted and inspected. Hope that helps. I guess it all depends on where you live for requirements.

I signed up for it and used it a couple of times. I couldn’t collect the promotional rate because the receipt printer was out of paper and they don’t let you upload a receipt that is a copy. I had to go into the station to get the receipt and it had copy on the bottom.
The next couple of Times I used it, the station rejected the claims in the app, so I haven’t used it again.
I fill up at Sam’s and Costco, so the savings there are better than trying to find a station that is participating in Upside. Both of those places offer 5% cash back if you use their credit cards to pay for gas. I think Sam’s does it no matter what gas station you buy gas from.

If you’re looking for tools or specifically anything that Vevor makes, you can usually find it on Temu for a lot cheaper than Amazon or the Vevor website. Sometimes the pictures will have Vevor in it too.

1 gallon of 30% vinegar, 1 cup salt, 1 Tablespoon dish soap (surfactant).
I’ve tried this and yields same results as using the tractor supply stuff. Maybe I’m not spraying enough. Also it didn’t seem to be a cheaper option for me.
I had a guy that works for a generator company come hook up the wires for $200. I installed a pad and ran the gas lines myself. It’s actually pretty easy to do.
If your transfer switch is already installed, then hooking up the generator to it is also pretty easy. Because the transfer switch is installed you don’t have to get the energy company to disconnect the power. I didn’t do it myself, because I wasn’t fully confident I could do it without electrocuting myself.
Bunch of YouTube videos you could learn from. Inevitably someone on the board will come on and say you’ll be an idiot for trying to do it yourself if you chose that route.
If you hire it out yourself, look for the smaller electricians and plumbers. They’re more than likely to take on this somewhat smaller job.

All my research says get a Bambu printer because it’s best plug and play. Makerworld is the website that has pretty much all the files you want to print.
Another poster said it and I’ll second it. The Elegoo Carbon seems to be a replica of the Bambu equivalent, but the software isn’t the same. Plenty of good YouTube videos to walk you through either printer.
I bought the Elegoo for my son that’s 7, and very happy with it so far. Your kid likely won’t know the difference between the two brands, because they only care about the end product. It comes down to what you want you put into it.
$100-$200 or even $500 doesn’t necessarily make a better end product, it comes down to how much effort you want to put into it.
I like to figure things out so I went the Elegoo route and took the difference in price to buy more filament. My son has waken up everyday and won’t go to sleep because he wants to see what is printing. He doesn’t care what it is, just that something is printing.
Good luck with whatever you choose, but it’s worth it because your kid will love it. Don’t know how old you are but I remember when we got the internet and a color printer at home and it was all I was obsessed about once we got it. Your kid will feel the same way.

I got this one from Harbor Freight.

Had it for a couple of months and can’t complain so far. Light weight and rolls up easily. Seems to be more durable than PVC hoses, but I guess time will tell.

If you want to build tote storage this is also easy to build and cheap. There’s a calculator that shows you how to build and what lumber to buy to fit your needs.

They weren't Cooper Discoverers, so probably not applicable. They were whatever Coopers came from the Toyota dealership.
I’m on my third set of Coopers for my 2014 Tundra with 186,000. Truck came with KO2s but I had to replace those at 50,000, because the previous owner put in a leveling kit and didn’t get an alignment, so they wore out earlier than expected. First two sets came from NTB which has their own Cooper not called Discoverers. This set is from Sam’s and I’ve been happy. I think I’ve put roughly 60,000 on each set and would get an alignment with each new set. I also rotate every 10,000. I used to do every 5,000, but got lazy so just do them with each oil change.
