Any recs? Looking for something that is reasonably priced, but am definitely okay with paying a few extra dollars for more top end stuff.

Check out Pendleton. Canadian blend whiskey. Very smooth and affordable, around $21. Slightly sweet.

What have you tried and what do you like? Just work through popular bourbons (buffalo trace, eagle rare, four roses, Elijah Craig, Old Forrester, knob creek, blantons, try some ryes, etc.). The fun is in trying things.

Woodford Reserve. Eagle Rare.

Good and not too expensive. Around $30.

Honestly I don't know a lot about bourbons, I usually just drink beer. I've tried things like Makers Mark in the past. The reason I really started this thread was because recently I went with a work friend to a business dinner and the guy we met there was very wealthy and treated us to Macallan 25 all night long. It was quite a pleasant and eye opening experience. I want to become a scotch drinker now

Ok, Scotch isn’t bourbon. If your wanting to get into scotch and liked the Macallen, try other Speysides.

Glenlevit 15 is my favorite and is reasonably priced.

Aberlour is another decently priced scotch.

My only thing is to make sure you are buying whiskey distilled and barreled by the brand you are buying from. Many of the mid-range and high end brands get their distilled product from a conglomerate in Indiana. Basically, it’s a big operation that produces recipes that people buy from them.

The Jim bean brand (knob creek, basil haydens etc), Four Roses, Colonel EH Taylor and the guys who make Elijah Craig are a few that do everything in house. I also try to have a bottle of Garrison Bros on hand as well. It’s a small operation in Hye, Tx... kinda pricey, but i enjoy it. They buy or grow literally everything in Texas that’s possible.

Macallan 18 is a damn fine scotch and can be found all over Baton Rouge for about $200 per bottle.

Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban is excellent for $42.

For a bourbon daily sipper, Wild Turkey 101 is pretty good. With all of the small batch brands put now you'll just have to sample over a year to find what you like.
