I’ve not eaten at any of the nicer places in Huntsville. I’ve eaten in a couple of the downtown places for lunch and bar food but nothing that stands out.

Two restaurants up that way:

Greenbrier has my favorite hush puppies in the world. They are as good as the ones that I’d get at the volunteer fire department as a kid or at my uncles. Worth the drive.

Big Bob Gibson invented Alabama white bbq sauce in the 30s. They are currently known for competition bbq and Chris Lilly being on the Food Network. The bbq they serve in the restaurant is just okay. But worth a visit.

Oof.

Despite all of the Sunshine Pumpers on here, HSV is a weird place. Lots of smart-smart folks from all over, but from 4+ years of looking for something to eat there, I'm not sure how many of these rocket-surgeons actually learned how to cook.

My take for something different? Tour the German restaurant scene. Ol Heidelburg and Hildegard's come to mind.

If you’re looking for something easy and quick, Fresko Grille is a fantastic counter service Greek/Lebanese place.

Avoid the Moe’s BBQ location there. Awful customer service and small portions.

Try Big Shakes, not too far from where you are. Nashville hot chicken place but the catfish is really good.

Born and raised in Huntsville, and you won't hear any argument from me on this one.

As for OP's question, you can't go wrong with 1892 East as another poster mentioned. I've known the Executive Chef since college, and he can turn out some damn good food. Their brunch is also really good.
