I love their root beer freeze. Think of a blended root beer milkshake.

I think you’d get a lot more traction if this was on the OT. They really get behind these Go fund me’s.

I admit to feeling the same way about a business that can't cover an expense like this: no SBA loan, no line of credit anywhere? I know we are in extraordinary times, but I generally restrict my GoFundMe to people w/medical needs or legit charity asks.....not for-profit businesses that don't want to borrow money to cover their operating costs.

So they want a government bailout and free money from the public? Sounds like they are terrible at business

No amount of money would save that place from dying. It may prolong it but it’ll suffer an inevitable death

You got Krispy Kreme with a line to airline, Quarter View stays packed nightly. That’s a prime stretch of real estate. These people want to play dress up and scratch a nostalgic itch... no one wants to go a 50s diner I’m sure the food is fine but it’s a terrible concept. You put an Atomic Burger there and the line would be out the door.

Doubt they would get a government loan since they really don't have many non-family employees and what's wrong with asking for donations from people who value the business in their community? It's not like there are going to be any more Frostops opening anymore. It has a preservation of tradition aspect to it.

12 years in the business, what were they doing with the profits? Wheres the savings account for times like these? No business interruption insurance? Sounds like bad business practices to me.

We took that chance because Frostop is part of New Orleans history and we wanted to be part of it.

Even though Frostop evokes a lot of great memories for New Orleanians, it isn't a "New Orleans" thing. It started in Ohio and there are still franchises across the country. It's not like this is the location over by Tulane or the one that was on Canal Street or on Chef Hwy. This location is actually in an old Pizza Hut building. There's no history, nostalgia, or New Orleans tradition being salvaged here. Frostop as a chain existed before this location and will continue on after it dies.

They make it sound like they bought an old historic New Orleans iconic landmark restaurant. To the contrary, they tried to recreate memories and capitalize on people's nostalgia. Nothing wrong with that, but it clearly didn't pan out for them on the business side. I'm sorry it didn't work out. I wish financial failure on no one.

Side note. What happens in these situations if they don't meet the goal to save the place? Pocket the money? Distribute refunds?

Let me know when the guy sells it. I will buy it, time for a new structure to fit with today’s model.

Frostop is no longer a chain. There is no franchiser anymore. The remaining restaurants are no longer franchises. The only vestage of the Frostop franchiser is that they bottle the root beer and the extract that the remaining stores can buy.

There are only 5 or 6 Frostops in existence now anywhere, and most are in Louisiana. There's one in Laplace apparently only open on a short schedule, this Clearview store that moved from Jefferson Highway near the old Colonial Golf Club, one in Destrehan that moved from Jefferson near Causeway and the last Ted's Frostop near Tulane. A few years ago there was one in BR on Government, but I don't know if it exists anymore.

My first hamburger memory was a Lot-o-Burger from the Frostop that used to be on Veterans and Severn, where Shake Shack is now. There was for decades a Frostop on Airline nearby, where a Capital One is now across from the Bevi Seafood location. It was a hangout for me and other students of East Jefferson HS in the neighborhood.

Maybe it's just me, but I think this restaurant is worth saving.

The one on Govt in BR still exists, but is a greasy sad sort of place these days.

Friend,

I once got a free personal pan pizza from this Pizza Hut through the BookIt program. It was spectacular. I am not a fan of FroStop although the only ones I have tried were the ones on Claiborne and Williams.

Yours,
