I'm not looking for any style in particular but well-prepared, high-quality food with a decent draft beer selection and casual atmosphere (i'll be wearing shorts). What ya got?

Some of the place on Yelp look a little stuffy.

If looking for a place to eat go to Longview. Endless places IMO

Without a doubt, go to Stanley's.

not high-end but at least have lunch one day at Jucys Burgers and don't forget to eat the gratis beans. great burger and great beans. East 5th location. Onion rings are also outstanding

I stay in Tyler once a quarter for work and really like the town. Its not a bad town at all and has plenty to do.
Stanleys of course
Oliveto Is a cool bistro with great food
Villa Montez is a cool themed latin/mexican place
Clear Springs is a good ole southern fried place with onion rings as big as your face.
The south loop has all the chains as well

Stanley's is solid
I wanted to come back and thank all who recommended Stanley's. Very high quality food and likely the best baby back ribs I have ever eaten. Their spicy bbq sauce is also one of the best balance of heat and flavor that I have found in a bbq sauce and there is not holding back on the heat either.

Stanleys also has a kick-butt breakfast!
Bodacious BBQ - solid.
Mercados for Mexican.
Don Juan for Mexican if downtown. Wednesday is Taco Night and the place is usually overrun.
The Diner on South Broadway is great for breakfast.
Country Tavern near Kilgore is locally famous. Little drive from Tyler, but the ribs are the local standard. There is a black-headed waitress there I would have bought a convertible for! Killer.
Also, just south of Tyler in Whitehouse is Ribmasters. They were out of ribs that night, but the brisket was first-class. The life sized cutout of John Wayne in the dining room was a plus. You can sit in and eat, but the volume of to-go orders being picked up made me take notice.
