Childish?
Affordable options exist for people who don’t want to pay a premium for a product
Walmart — > Whole Foods
Kia —- > Mercedes
Fast food —- > good restaurants
Clothes, shoes, beer, whatever
This guy is putting out quality food and personally visiting tables over at Katie’s. I don’t think he has some million dollar bank account like Emeril. He’s taking a huge chance trying to enrich a neighborhood with a new sandwich joint and you got the typical uniformed consumers shitting on the place before trying it or complaining over an extra $1 for a sandwich. It’s disturbing bc there are people who will actually read this thread and not try it

That's fair. And I do feel for Scott and everyone else trying to make it in this restaurant environment these days.

Wife and I went there on Saturday. We had both been looking forward to the opening as we live a few blocks away.
I ordered the Italian sub, which had a good amount of meat on it so I was okay with the $13 price point (cured meats are expensive). The sandwich was good, but I think it would be much better on a bread with a harder crust/soft middle. The bread it was served on was a softer, almost hoagie-like bread, which doesn't do much for me.
My wife ordered the Italian salad and we both really enjoyed that. We also split an order of the pimento cheese served with frips. It was good, but not sure on how I feel about the frips--different, nonetheless.
All of the pizzas I saw looked delicious. Looking forward to returning to try some of the hot sandwiches.
Overall, I thought it was good, but I think if they improve on their breads it would go a long way. As far as prices go, I typically eat at Stein's or Martin's when I want deli sandwiches and all of their prices were very comparable. Not sure what price point people are expecting from a known restaurant name in an expensive area. Either way, it's much better than the dump that Koz's was.

So, are we not allowed to review a place after trying it? Isn’t that what this board is for?
Give me a break. Online reviews are how businesses learn and grow or ignore and flop. You can’t expect every person who does not enjoy their sandwich to give the owner a call and give them a personal complaint.
Certainly some establishments can charge a premium for excellent food, but my particular meal was not excellent. No one compared it to Wendy’s, but to pay $14 a sandwich, it should be delicious. They have work to do and reading reviews online early in the game can help them change some things up and succeed in the long run. At this point, I can get a better sandwhich and fried pickle down the street and save about $5.

Today this would be an example, went to Hippie Kitchen for lunch.
Half a pastrami sandwich and a cup of tomato soup. They make the pastrami in house (house cured and smoked) as well as the bread. $12. I loved it. Would get it again without hesitation.

Y’all act like restaurants get their food for feee and profit 100% of it
You want gulf seafood? Premium meats and cheeses? Meats smoked and cured in house? Making their own dough for sandwiches and pizza? Homemade sausages?
It’s not just “oh hey let’s jack our prices up”. frickin idiots thinking these people are getting rich off this. On top of paying for food they have numerous other expenses like rent labor insurance etc. Enjoy your dollar menu at Wendy’s
And yet their price point was above anything I've seen for a similar set up.
The food was average. Nothing special. And everything was just a bit overpriced.
He needs to go back and tinker with the costs. The end.

So would a whole sandwich cost $24?
Posted on 7/25/18 at 3:07 pm to Lester Earl
If it came with another cup of soup and greens, then yes.
Posted on 7/25/18 at 3:08 pm to Lester Earl
Even though you are being a smartass I'll indulge you, same price whole without the soup.

Hippie kitchen is my jam but I don’t think that value is much better. According to the menu you posted a pastrami is $11.99 at Francesca

I know, I remember you mentioning it, thus my comment
And, I was not one on this thread complaining about the prices.

go walk over there and get something and report back!
Ate lunch with my FIL Saturday afternoon at Francesca's after helping him with some work on his boat. Originally planned on eating there, but decided to switch it and order "to-go" after seeing all the tables full and no one leaving. After a wait we got our sandwiches and left.
I'd tell you how my Italian sub was, but I'd be beating a dead horse and piling on...

Has anyone tried The Moon yet? Is it as good as Charlie's made it?
