Pickle juice and Gatorade will also keep electrolytes up.

If you don't already have a really good blender, you might consider getting one. Ninja, reconditioned Blendtec or Vitamix....

Full fat greek yogurt has lots of protein & good texture; it can carry other flavors, savory or sweet. Banana + greek yogurt + peanut butter + cocoa powder will deliver a meal's worth of calories & taste good too.

Hummus, thinned with veggie broth to be pourable or sippable through a straw, is another good protein/fiber source. It is slightly nicer when warm, too.

Milkshakes are calorically dense and tasty, with pleasant associations--don't bother with the disgusting canned supplements like ensure. The same calories/nutrition can be delivered through pureed "real" foods.

I would suggest a Sonic slush but you probably don’t want to go back.

Yep. Got stepped on yesterday. Broke in two places.( one break on each side) Will have the braces with rubber bands as they don’t wire anything any more. In surgery now so we’re hoping he can keep most his teeth.

He’s already fighting the idea of eating stuff from a blender. Doctor says first few days go with protein shakes and such. Later can transition to mushy stuff like well cooked fish, mashed potatoes, or basically anything that can be mashed with the tongue and roof of his mouth. Swelling and soreness is gonna be the big hurdle for the first week

Thanks to all the suggestions. Some great ideas and tips so far

Premier protein shakes from Sam’s for quick meal replacement drinks. I keep a box at school and in my car.

Damn that’s a game changer. My mouth was completely wired shut. I had to carry around some small clippers in case I got sick and had to throw up

When I had my jaw wired together cold drinks like slushes were a huge no because of sensitivity. Some one else mentioned food getting jammed in wires and that’s true too. At first I blended cheese ravioli with tomato sauce. Then tried black beans with sour cream and finally gave up. Drank Ensure/Boost whatever protein shakes out there. Odwalla is gone they had plenty to pick from.

You cannot brush your teeth on the inside and food gets trapped and it’s gross. He is probably using a chlorahexadine rinse which is equally bad tasting.

If he's in rodeo, I'm sure he ain't no skinny fella, so I'm sure he doesn't just want to eat just to satisfy his hunger but also keep up a decent protein intake so he doesn't lose too much muscle mass so he can get back to kickin' arse.

Contact a weight loss surgeon and get some meal replacement shakes. The stuff they push to their patients is far superior to the same old chocolate/vanilla/strawberry/cookies and cream stuff you can get over the counter, and has way more vitamins, nutrients, and only protein isolate instead of concentrate or a blend of the two.

The monotony is what really gets to you, though. The brand named "Bariatric Advantage" has stuff like banana, orange creamsicle, and even a savory one that's cream of chicken.

Get a good blender, too. A ninja will do it. You'll start getting creative. My favorite was redbeans without meat pureed into baby food. Another one I enjoyed was putting some gumbo through a fine strainer and sipping just the juice ... the entire flavor profile was still there.

Your boy sounds like one tough sumbitch. I hope he doesn't have too rough of a time with it and get's back into fighting shape soon. God Bless.

needs to be warm not cold for the pain for a while. Funny how no to blended food can change after a few days of hungry also when ya decide ya can stand the cold beer it gets ya drunk lots faster when sucked through a straw

I knew a guy in college that would buy a happy meal from McDonald's and blend it all...burger, fries, and coke. Said it was much better than it sounds. Worth a shot in my book.
