Being your first time, I would strongly reccomend Peche and Commanders Palace.

Peche is great food, no need to dress up. Commanders is classic old school new orleans and a great experience for out of towners.

Yes they do. It’s not a very big place however. It just the chef and his wife back there cooking everything but they do a great job.

Back to OP, I agree a first timer should check out Peche.

Yes I wrote a two thumbs up review on it on here last year. Its really good! Odd place as a front for their catering but they do a good job

If you want some real gumbo & locL flair , I’d consider a place like Gabrielle’s. The couple come from the Paul Prudomme tree. Though you can find many good gumbos on a lot of menus, but they have one of the best. You can find some great gulf fish dishes here, as well as things like duck & oyster.

Brightsen’s is also a Prudomme disciple. Albeit it is a bit old school, I like what they do here & it is just one of those places that are naturally New Orleans.

Palm & Pine is one of my favorite newer places that use local ingredients well. They are outsiders who have done time at some staples here, so it’s a nice take on old/new. They do brunch on Sundays that I really like.

Good stuff here

Gabrielle's would be a good choice, just note its in an...odd...neighborhood for a tourist so uber there and back, no walking around that area
