Eh, more Google Maps searching and supplementing my thoughts with a Google search, which, yes, includes Reddit links.

I didn't expect to have all the answers as a first-time visitor, which is why I asked the board for their considerations of keeping vs. removing restaurants from my list - I obviously trust your recommendations against my research, but I felt it was good to, at least, provide some context as to what I might be looking for instead of a generic ask.

I’m not hating on reddit, I just think there are a lot of transplants that do not have quite the feel that true locals do.

There are just some niche places I think you can pass on

Lil Dizzy for instance is solid but usually comes up when black-owned businesses are requested.

Katie’s is passable but is a good choice if you have picky eaters are people unsure of what they want; they have a very large menu.

You seem like you’re more dialed in & appreciative of the true experience.

I will say I am glad you are open to the FQ. There are some great options especially for drinking establishments. This board does the FQ bad when it is awesome outside of bourbon street.

Bunchie you come to appreciate places like that when in laws come in town and don’t appreciate good food & start asking to eat gator & shite.

I wasn’t recommending it but I can see why my response was confusing. If buddy has 3 days to eat it’s a big hell no. Agree about Revel too.

I know you want local cuisine but I think there has been a huge shift in the dining scene the last 20 years. There is less outright traditional local places (what tourist think of as “Cajun” / “Creole”) than there was 20yrs ago.

Many of the great places are owned by transplants. It’s become a city where these people come to try & “make it”. And I think the city is much better for it..

Cochon on your original list would be one. They have a sandwich / small plate outpost next door called Cochon Butcher, too. You can scratch the Cajun itch with this family of restaurants. (The Link restaurant group owns Peche as well, from your original list. Would definitely consider that too, as well as Herbsaint. La Boulangerie on Magazine St is a cute little cafe that would be great for breakfast /coffee one morning)

If you want some real gumbo & locL flair , I’d consider a place like Gabrielle’s. The couple come from the Paul Prudomme tree. Though you can find many good gumbos on a lot of menus, but they have one of the best. You can find some great gulf fish dishes here, as well as things like duck & oyster.

Brightsen’s is also a Prudomme disciple. Albeit it is a bit old school, I like what they do here & it is just one of those places that are naturally New Orleans.

Palm & Pine is one of my favorite newer places that use local ingredients well. They are outsiders who have done time at some staples here, so it’s a nice take on old/new. They do brunch on Sundays that I really like.
