I usually use Buffalo trace
My recipe:
Simple syrup... usually just enough to coat the bottle of a rocks glass
A splash of water
2-3 dashes of Angostura bitters
1 luxardo cherry with a little bit of its syrup
One orange rind rubbed on the rim of the glass then dropped in
One large ice cube
Add 1.5-2 oz bourbon
Add 1 more cherry then stir
I’ve done orange slices and muddled the cherries and oranges in the past but I prefer without all that

My go to, like a lot of the people here, is Bulleit Bourbon. I also use a traditional recipe, as many have also posted here.
I did have a $35 OF at Cut in Las Vegas using Whistle Pig 12 Year Rye. It was pretty frickin' good. Also made by a hot girl right at my table.
They also offered one with 15 year WP for $125, and "Boss Hogg" for about $165.
(and no, a BJ from the hot mixologist wasn't included.
)
That was a little rich for my blood.

I always use Peychauds bitters. Just my personal preference.

I do bulleit or bulleit rye mostly. Granted, I keep a bottle of both on hand at all times.

Three words - Ritten house rye. You are welcome.

With as much stuff that goes into one, I do not think the bourbon choice is all that critical. I just use what I have around. At a bar, whatever they have from Buffalo Trace is it. Charter getting rare up here.

Bulleit
Slice of mandarin orange (my mom dropped a bunch off)
3 black cherries (and a little of the juice)
2 sugar cubes
Dash or two of bitters
