What are the recommendations of the board for which bottles I should have if I wanted to start a collection?

I'll sell you a bottle of Van Winkle or a Black label Weller.

Jim Beam will leave you $9,986 to buy some other decent bottles.

For the money I love Eagle Rare

Buffalo Trace
Eagle Rare
Maker's Mark
Blantons
4 Roses Small Batch
4 Roses Single Barrel
Angel's Envy
Henry McKenna 10 year
Larceny
Evan Williams single barrel
Elijah Craig Small Batch
All of these are decent bottles for a beginner's collection.

I’d add Woodford Reserve to the list.

A collections? Prices are crazy and supply is limited, this is not the time to start a collection.

This, but scratch the Angel's Envy and replace with Michter's. I'm also not a fan of Larceny, but it wouldn't hurt to have a bottle to serve to people you don't like.
I'd add a couple bottles of rye as well. Russel's Reserve is my favorite rye.

I guess to cover a lot of mashbills and flavor profiles:
Wheated mash bills:
Makers and makers 46...really any makers is solid
any weller if you can find it
pappy if you wanna eat up half of that 1K budget in one bottle
High rye:
buffalo trace or eagle rare (same stuff just different aging and warehouse location)
any 1792
four roses small batch or single barrel
russels reserve
old forester
knob creek
woodford is technically a pretty high rye mashbill, but will come across more balanced
Blends:
High west does some excellent stuff
blood oath...you got a high budget..why not
idk...This would be a solid start I suppose...I'm bored at work...give me some more parameters

Love this bottle, and it's been too long since I've taken it home. I keep getting a bottle of OF 1910 which to me is a better double oaked and I keep thinking I won't be able to find much of it soon lol

Man that's a whole lot of responses to not have Wild Turkey 101 listed at least once. Definitely an essential bourbon, and very cheap.

Agree. Rare Breed is a good starting barrel proof as well.

Thank you for the recommendations. I started with the following:
1. Four Roses Small Batch Select
2. Basill & Haydens
3. Woodford Reserve Double Oak (had already)
4. Jeffersons Chateau Pichon Baron
5. Belle Meade Sherry
6. Belle Meade XO
7. Angels Envy
8. Blanton’s
9. Deceptivus by Cadee
10. Kentucky Vintage Small Batch
11. Oak & Eden Bourbon and Vine (Cabernet stepped Oak)
On the way (paid for but need to pick up from a small town liquor store
12. Weller 12 (2 bottles)
13. I. W. Harper 15 year
Couldn’t find but want:
Rock Hill Farms
Black Maple Hill 16
Willett Rare Release Straight Rye
Old Fitzgerald
Again thanks for the suggestions.

Baysel & Haydens
Basil Hayden’s. It is a Jim Beam whiskey named in honor of Meredith Basil Hayden Sr., a distiller.
Trivia: His grandson also started a distillery and named a whiskey Old Grand Dad in honor of the same Basil with his likeness on the label.
I’ve only had one bottle, but I thought it was pretty good.
