I see a new restaurant opened. They went from a food truck to a restaurant, apparently. Facebook photos look nice and I’d like to try it out eventually.
Has anyone tried it?
It’s on Sherwood at 12, about where the old ground patty was.

Haven't tried the restaurant, but everything that I've had from the food truck has been excellent.
It's usually my recommendation when people ask for the best Cuban sandwich in Baton Rouge.

Haven't tried it yet but I work close by and the parking lot was full around 1pm.

Wishing the best. Want to go.
They have put in a lot of work there.
There are a lot of vagrants around there. Wonder how long until they run off the customers?

The food and coffees from the truck were always good.

the best cuban food is Caribean Joes Cafe
It used to be in that office building off Sherwood
I think they are close to opening a new location somewhere

The new location! We plan on opening soon. Get ready
New location in the old Marchand restaurant building and new name: Copa - Cruzan Creole
S Burnside Ave., Gonzales, LA, United States, 70737
not open yet, but they've been running the food truck all over Ascension Parish. Opening June 2026
quote:
To understand COPA, you must first understand the meaning behind the word “Cruzan.”
Crucian/Cruzan (crew-shun) refers to the people of St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands. A culture shaped by African, Caribbean, European, and island influences—woven together over generations.
The roots of Crucian culture run deep. Through hardship, colonial history, migration, music, food, craftsmanship, storytelling, and celebration; the people of St. Croix created something uniquely their own. Something soulful, resilient, expressive, and full of pride.
You feel it in the steel pans of our music.
You hear it in the cadence of our voice.
You taste it in the food we put on our plates.
COPA: Cruzan Creole, is our way of honoring those roots while blending them with the bold spirit and unmatched flavor of South Louisiana.
Tu Tierra Cafe on Siegen also has a legit Cuban sandwich. It's in the same strip mall as the Mexican Grocery.

Went yesterday. We ordered the traditional plate they’ve had on the food truck for years…roasted pork, rice, beans; also ceviche and tostones (we got shrimp because the fish option was tilapia, but they serve snapper in many dishes), and a marinated fried chicken dish with rice and beans and fried plantains.
Their mojo sauce is so so so f’ing good, that whatever you dip in it turns excellent. It’s that good. It’s that great.
Everything else was decent, but seemed a bit bland. They had a much larger menu than the food truck, and some good looking lunch menu options. Place is clean and nice and well thought out. The new things I tried didn’t wow me, but will 100% go back for more. Service was great and atmosphere also.

I hope they make it. That’s a tough location with the area and traffic.

Ate there Wednesday. Food was very good and they did a great job with the interior.
Little confusing though, our server said the owner wasnt the lady who owned the food truck. Our server was from blue iguana and said it was the same owners as there.

UPDATE: Ate there yesterday and it was good. Great atmosphere and interior. Everything I saw coming out looked great. Friendly staff. Food took a little bit to come out but that should improve with time obviously. Full house at the time also. Give it a try and enjoy!
