Maybe 10+ years ago. Now you can't get it and it's not $13 a fifth anymore. When it does come out, you need to be on a list and willing to pay a premium.

90% of the time I can find Weller SR at one of three liquor stores on my way home for like $42/handle.

If you look hard enough, depending on where you live, the SR is easy to find at retail.
Hell, it definitely depends on where you live. OWA was rare to find when I was in Biloxi, and the only reason I found it regularly was because I was friends with the store owner.

I just moved to the Dayton area and the local store here gets it almost every Thursday (OWA and SR, haven't seen the Weller 12 there yet). They get a couple cases and just put them on the ground. They last a few days each time also. I am not complaining.

Evan Williams white label is best bang for buck though IMO

Love that stuff and at $16 a fifth and 100 proof you can't beat it. I am also a big fan of Old Grandad BIB

My go to Irish is Paddys or Sexton.

Scotch tends to be Laphroaig 10 at around $35-40.

I will occasionally pick up a bottle of FinLaggan from the Trader Joes, Its a Lagavulin not aged on Islay, well worth the $18 price.

I actually prefer Buffalo Trace over Eagle Rare.

I wasn't a fan of Eagle Rare. Like BT though.

Bourbon has gone to shite here in FL.

Miss the days when I would stumble over bottles of Stagg, Blanton’s and aged Willett all over Laffy.

Best Bourbon for the buck nowadays is ECBP; hands down. Even it has gotten hard to find here.

Buffalo Trace is well Bourbon. Always has been. This isn’t to say it’s bad; but, our local strip clubs pour it and they aren’t exactly known for discerning tastes. YMMV...

New stars showing up are New Riff. You can get 12-15yo Knob Creek for $50-60. Rare Breed is a lot of bang for the buck too.

Esteban at Nunu’s recommended I give the Jim Beam double oak (blue label) a try one time when I was looking for something inexpensive to sip and also mix. Definitely fits the bill as my personal economical go-to.

Sort of related, but if y'all don't know, Alabama liquor laws are crazy. The state controls it, so the cheapest place is pretty much always the state run ABC stores. And you can't buy hard liquor in grocery stores or WalMart. Even at the CostCo, it is a separate entrance.

I prefer the local run stores usually, but not when it comes to liquor. They have to buy their supply from the state, and I don't think they get any break in price, so they have to mark up from there. The only way most of the locals make money is being open when the state stores are closed. Several of them stay open until late at night, when the state stores close earlier. There's a package store just inside the Jefferson County line that is open on Sundays. They have a small selection of liquor, but where they do great is the beer cave.

The local owned store near my house, I go there and spend a few dollars more on most bottles. For some reason they had Four Roses cheaper than the state store. Discovered this a while back. So that is usually all I get there, and beer. But it is worth it when I don't want to drive further and when the ABC is closed.

It would be much easier to be able to get liquor at Publix, WalMart, etc.
