We’re going for a long weekend to watch the Astros. Any recommendations for nearby restaurants?

We’re staying with an 8 year old in Downtown about a mile from the ballpark. A friend recommended St Arnold.

I saw a Pappa’s BBQ and a Louisiana style lunch place near where we are staying.

Thanks

Not real familiar with the stadium area and what's there.

This question gets asked often so there's probably some recon from the search.

Offshoreangler is very knowledgeable so you may want to look through his posts.

Few top notch BBQ joints not too far would include The Pit Room, Rogels (Voss Rd), and Truth BBQ.

Pappas is not bad, but meh.

If that Louisiana style lunch place is Zydeco, skip it. Hard pass. A better option for similar cuisine is Kulture.

Rodeo Goat

Irma’s Downtown (not Irma’s Southwest - also located downtown) located a few blocks north of Minute Maid.

The Rustic, located a few blocks south of Minute Maid, one block east of Hilton Americas.

Hearsay Gastropub

A longer walk would be Batanga

A great hidden gem is Brasserie du Parc. Never had a bad meal there. Quite the opposite.

If you’re looking for BBQ nearby, J-Bar-M is kid friendly…huge outdoor space.

The POST…huge food hall with a massive rooftop patio…my kids love it.

El Tiempo or the Original Ninfa’s over off Navigation…Ninfa’s has a shuttle to Minute Maid that I think is still running.

I would 100% get out of downtown and walk around EaDo if you have some time surrounding game, fine for kids during the day:
Rodeo Goat
Tiny Champions
Seaside Poke

Downtown these days I would go to:
Bravery Chef Hall, food hall with legit options including Blind Goat (Master Chef winner)
Biggio’s
Moonshiners
Rustic

Thanks for the recommendations. Wish we had more time to try different places.

We visited the Pit Room for BBQ. Very good!

The elote and okra were outstanding.
