She can cook pretty damn well but I pissed her off tonight. She made some guac and asked me to come taste it to see if it needed anything (I usually make the guac). This shite was brown like it'd been sitting for 3 days and, seeing the potato masher laying on the counter, it made sense why it was more sauce-like than guac-like.

I told her I couldn't taste it due to the color....I see brownish guac and my mind immediately tells me its old or was sitting out too long. She tells me it's because she added hot sauce (wtf?). I told her I just couldn't get over the visual. She walked away pissed. In the doghouse for some shitty guac.

Y'all ever been put in the doghouse for not appreciating something your spouse made incorrectly?

I add hot sauce sometimes. I like it gives the guac a kick since most guac is too bland for me.

Man, that's what jalapeno and serrano peppers are for!

Avocado turns in short order when you don’t know what to do. You could have tasted it and avoided the doghouse.

Maybe... buy some peppers when you pick up the avocados?

Must have not added any lime juice... Helps it not oxidize so fast.

I ate delicious leftover guacamole last night. Sure, it was brown on the surface, but still great. What you put out into the world (or your marriage) returns to you threefold.

My wife added a can of Rotel to some avocados recently. That is okay, but it takes away the fresh flavor of the avocados. I prefer just salt and lime, perhaps diced fresh peppers.

I didn't say anything, and she concluded on her own that it would be best to leave out the Rotel. I just agreed with her. No doghouse.

Put those fresh peppers in a mortar and pestle with a little salt and garlic.

Profit.

I like cutting up some red onions and soaking them in vinegar while I chop up some peppers and cilantro. Mix those plus salt and pepper in, drain the vinegar and add the onions in and you’re done.

Yep. I use habanero in mine to add some kick. And I'm with the OP, I won't eat brown guac.

When I make it I put it in a container that is appropriate for the amount and lay Saran wrap on top of the guac and make sure there is not airspace for it to start turning brown.

I eat an avocado every day so always have them in the house. I'm not trying to be difficult, I'm just saying using hot sauce in guac at home is quick and easy and not a big deal.

this is only true if they don't have pinterest

Pinterest recipes have been outlawed in our house. Wife made like 3 recipes off of there and that was that...we both agreed that turning to housewives who think Cream of Mushroom soup and/or cream cheese belong in every recipe was not where we should be looking for recipe ideas.
