Granite is timeless. Concrete is a fad. Butcher block is unsanitary.

That has nothing to do with what I said, which is that I think granite countertops are ugly.

As are tons of things .. doesn't necessarily mean one has to avoid them.

Besides that point, right now the current fad in kitchen remodeling is stainless steel appliances, granite countertops and tile backsplash. Guarantee you in 20 years a ton of people will rip that shite out if they see it in a house.

You're right. I wish someone would invent a sealant.

Taking too long to take something out/ put something in the oven. The longer the door remains open, the greater the amount of heat loss.

Using a paring knife to chop onions or other vegetables instead of a chef's knife.

I have a Dozen good knives, and I am guilty of using the Paring Knife most. Bad habit - am starting to break it . . .

I clean as i cook, so that when everything is ready i have an empty sink and the only thing taking up counter space is supper. Cant stand a dirty kitchen.

Who cares. Granite is ugly as frick. If I owned my house (I rent, obviously) I would have concrete or butcher block counters.

I agree with this.

Even though I clean them several times a day, I hate when my wife starts cutting things right on the counter. We have cutting boards for a reason.

This one really pisses me off: some friends of ours invite us to these parties/cookout a couple of times a year. Usually it's their birthdays (kids and adults) with some beer and a bouncy house in the back yard. Sounds nice, except that 1) he uses generic hamburger patties (which isn't a deal breaker in and of itself; it's the most cost effective thing when you're cooking for a large amount of people) and 2) He barely cooks them and then let's them sit out in the open, usually uncovered, and doesn't put them on the serving table till he's done with all of them.

I don't get it. Let's have some half cooked hamburger patties sit and get cold. Sounds great.

I love them, but I hate going to their damn parties.

Those are a catch 22 for me. I actually prefer the taste of flour tortillas, but they're high in calories and shoot your blood sugar way up. Corn tortillas are better for you, but they often give me heart burn and the taste can over power the food at times.

When I start cooking I have to start with a clean kitchen and I despise cluttered countertops. I need clutter free surfaces to prep.
