I'd be more offended if they asked for it well done.
They definitely wouldn't get a nice cut the next time
either way.

Offended may not be the right word, but I get what you are saying. Yes it's a bit offputting, and I usually encourage someone to try it before saucing it. If they say that they don't like steak without the sauce, then so be it.

if i am a chef, i do not care because making money off of that cut

Count me as one of those ppl who finds filet/tenderloin underwhelming. I like it cut into chunks for kebabs, but I'm usually marinating it in a spiced-packed yogurt mix, or otherwise heavily coating it w/flavor. So I can totally see the need for SOMEthing on it, be it bearnaise or A1 (as your own taste determines). Or in the classic steak aux poivres, w/cognac & cream. It's also convenient to roast a whole tenderloin for a party, rather than cooking individual steaks.
That said, I wouldn't bother sharing my very favorite hanger steak with steak-drowners, as it needs nothing other than butter & flaky sea salt, or maybe some shallots...

I like my steaks as rare as possible, a blue steak some people call it.
A colleague won't eat anything that isnt close to leather.
See, here's the thing with steak. The only thing you are accountable to for what you eat is your arse hole.
So if a dude likes ketchup or crickets on top a steak, it's not my concern unless he's clogging up my bathroom.
Let the man eat.

I don't because maybe that's how they like their steak. My mother in law always uses steak sauce on her steak, but that's not just my cooked steaks, she does it on any steak she gets whether it's Ruth Chris, Outback, or anywhere. It's just her preference.
I love sautéed onions and bell peppers on my steak, some people wouldn't even eat that.

To one guy, it "needs" A-1. To you it needs butter. To another, "why ruin good steak flavor with butter?"
Why do we care so much? And when I ask this, I am including myself as part of the "we." People have a want for others to like things how we like them I guess.

So you can put a béarnaise sauce on it, but he can't put A1 on it? Why? Because some old guy in France approved béarnaise sauce for steaks, but not A1? They are both just sauces, and it's his steak. He can have it how he likes. I've never understood people getting offended over steaks. I order my steaks much rarer than MR (Pittsburg/black and blue style is how i prefer mine) and that's ok, but god forbid someone order a steak well done. The only thing I get upset over is when someone is cooking my steak and wants me to eat it other than how I prefer it

This sort of reminds me of a very good friend of mine who is an oyster purist. He absolutely won't let me use any condiments at all. No Worcestershire, no lemon, no hot sauce, no crackers. Yes, I understand that an oyster should stand on its own, but I happen to like the taste of some things added to it. Maybe this person likes the taste of steak sauce. No reason to be off put.

I keep a bottle of A1 for those rare occasions when the piece of meat you bought turns out to be pretty shitty. Other than that, I never use it.

understand it's his money, but what I don't understand is they won't listen to you when try to explain the different cuts of meats, and why things like this steak don't need it.
