do put bearnaise on my filet, so I guess people see that as the same as steak sauce.
Then you are a hypocrite if you're mad at people that use steak sauce. A top quality piece of meat doesn't need any kind of sauce, so you can't be a critic if you're using a sauce too man
I never use any kind of sauce unless the cook did a really bad job with cooking the steak, like its severely over cooked

This. Unless whoever is eating the steak wants some sauce on it. Then it's ok.

I find it insulting if I put my time and effort in making a nice pan sauce or something and they don't even try it. Then they lay ketchup all over it.
I say we don't have ketchup or any sauce when they ask.

I make board sauces all the time and I guarantee I am making that prime rib this weekend.

I'd be more offended if they asked for it well done.
My MIL asks for almost burnt and ketchup.

My FIL, a successful local attorney, ADA, real estate venturer, philanthropist, etc eats ketchup on every piece of meat he gets his hands on. Prime Rib? Filet mignon? Brisket? Pass the Heinz's. We give him hell about it of course. He simply does not care. It's pretty funny.
