Correct. I like to smear the garlic on the potatoes, then dip it in a sauce.

I dip every third crawfish and use the peel trick.

This question always brings out the crawfish snobs. Dip is very common in Terrebonne Parish. Really big tails I tend to eat without dip, but I like to dip the smaller ones and pile a few up on a saltine cracker.

I disagree with the “if you have to dip them, they’re not cooked right” position. The dip only enhances the flavor.

It's illegal in 3 parishes.

And on the other side of the coin, it's legally encouraged in Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes. My wife is from down the bayou and every boil I've been to down there with her family or friends has big ol' bowls of dip. I'm apathetic towards the sauce. It can be there or not be there. If it's there, I might dip an occasional sausage or potato in there. I don't miss it if it isn't there. It's essentially like Cane's sauce.

Grew up eating crawfish with dip. I never knew it was possible to mess up a pot of crawfish until I moved away from home and went to BR for college. Lots of people can’t cook crawfish once you get off the bayou. The places that have the best crawfish cooks are the places where the dip is most prevalent, so yea the “if you dip, it’s not cooked right” has never made any sense to me.

As long as you don’t boil sausage with crawfish I’m good. Who the frick boils sausage? I don’t know where this came from, but damn near every boil I go to now has an oily ring around the top of the pot...I know I’m crawfish boiled with sausage. fricking savages.

that might not be from the sausage. it is probably from the 4 sticks of butter the retards put in the pot to "soften the shells". hahaha dumbasses.

I break the tail off, dip, and then pull mat out with my teeth. Much more efficient.

I dip on occasions just to change up the flavor profile. I also like a nice dip for the potatoes and other veggies/sausage.

Fatty sausage dipped in a mayo-based sauce

Like steak, if it's done right, it doesn't need any help.

Dipping every single tail is dumb but it's a good change of pace every so often and the dip is fire on the boiled potatoes

I make a cocktail sauce for shrimp but nothing for crawfish or crabs however, post some recipes and I will try and see if I like this method.

That's where Graves got the idea from.

I peel me 5 or 6 crawfish, put it on a cracker with a lil dip, sometimes I'll put a pc of garlic and eat it. Sometimes I rat them straight out the tail. Depends on the mood.

I have about 12 pounds leftover from a boil last night. When I get home I'm going to eat some cold..... with no dip

Dipping in sauce slows down the process. I ain't got time to dip in no sauce if I'm trying to out eat my brothers...

This and the fact I love the flavor of seafood soaked in crawfish/crab boil (hell, I'll add a cap of liquid boil to a pot of water when boiling damn hot dog). Dragging the tail meat through some mayo/ketchup mix just takes away from the GOAT flavor already soaked into the meat.

Peel 20 or so crawfish
Two pieces of Evangeline Maid
Crawfish dip

Make a sammich. I dare you to tell me that’s wrong.

With crawfish hot out of the pot, you're wrong.

With tail meat leftover from the boil that sat in the fridge overnight, you're not wrong. Has to be Evangeline Maid, though. It would be an insult to place crawfish tails on an inferior product like Bunny or Sunbeam.
