This, along with Louisiana Lagniappe and Gino’s. Are three of the better that I like in BTR.

only have drum available for all of their “fresh fish” dishes

I've been told that black drum is now the most reliably available fresh fish available wholesale in So. La. It's the smart thing for a conservative restaurant to go with. LL does on occasion buy a big piece of tuna...watch the sign out front.

Chimes. Especially with someone not from Louisiana. I’m not saying it’s necessarily “the best restaurant” in BTR, merely saying it’s a good mix of food and vibe/crowd.

Boudin Balls
Spanish artichoke dip with bowtie fried pasta
Crawfish Etouffet
Bread pudding

I wish their gumbo was better/decent

If I’m looking for a steakhouse:
Fleming’s, Ruth’s, or Doe’s

I feel like Super Club is something you should try once, but how is the food compared to others in this thread?

It is one of the only places in Baton Rouge where you can consistently find wagyu cuts. It is the perfect spot for a night to splurge

In the right circumstances Pinetta’s might be it.

Pinetta's has been closed down for quite a bit now.

Had black drum tonight for fish tacos. It was good. But I catch enough red drum to keep a supply of the much better fish .

you think your could honestly tell the difference between a puppy drum filet and a redfish filet in a restaurant dish? Maybe you could, but I doubt it

I don’t dislike black drum. I just think a longstanding restaurant that serves $40 fish dishes and is people’s go-to seafood suggestion should have some variety beyond one fish used for all when other places seem to have no huge issue having that.

I’ve liked everything I’ve eaten at LL. It’s not a knock on their preparation.

If we could combine Mansur’s fish variety with LL preparation variety, we’d be in fish heaven!

LL had a very diverse fish selection, comparable to Mansur’s, when they first opened. Then it was just drum and mahi, now it’s almost exclusively drum. I like drum well enough, but to have choices like tripletail, tilefish, grouper, and artic char, I give the nod to Mansur’s

I can't order any other dish from the menu when they have either of these. Love them both.

Good to know LL used to be more varied. I really do like the food there and have no big problem with black drum generally speaking. Just think their menu really lends itself to having rotating fish, especially since they have a line out the door on a daily basis and could get through the offerings just fine.

OMG I ate there this weekend and it was so awful. $32 Lobster Roll was a mushy mayonnaise mess. Short rib debris sandwich was a soggy over-seasoned sloppy joe. Fried rice was all peas and carrots. And how do you screw up a club sandwich? The thing was basically oily avocado and a gristly chicken breast. Will not be back.

Should mention the bar area was really cool and the gyoza appetizer was good. Probably a nice bar scene for hipper people than me, but I wouldn't eat dinner there.

Mestizo.

Healthier options.

The owner, Jim is always there. I believe this contributes to the consistent quality.

Mestizo is a solid choice for Mexican. They cater lunches for us occasionally and everything they cook has been consistently excellent.

back in the 90's my Dad's office was close to the Egg Roll King on Sherwood Forest Blvd. He would eat lunch there numerous times a week. Something happened to him during one of those visits that was apparently so disturbing that he still to this day won't tell me what it was.....

Damn. That sucks to hear it's still not great.

I had dinner there when it was still new, and while everything tasted fine, everything was room temperature. And it was a huge group of us, so I'm talking like 10 entrees and 6 appetizers all cold. We decided they must not have heat lamps for finished food waiting to go out.

I've been a bunch of times, but that was the only time I've gotten food. I just like the bar side for drinks.
