I strongly recommend the video of Guy eating set to Cash's version of Hurt. Can't link it on my phone but it's [probably best described by some German word I don't know that would require a paragraph in English to translate].

I've been to "Dough". It's a pizza place in San Antonio. It is neither a Diner, a drive in or a dive. In fact, it is a very nice premium pizza place that will cost you $25 for a pizza.

The owner was awesome though. He gave us free desserts because some jackass next to us was drunk and dropping f bombs.

I went to one BBQ joint in St. Louis that had been featured on the show before, and it was absolutely fantastic. We destroyed those dry rub ribs and wings.

Two.

Pier 23 in Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco last summer. Was looking for a place on the water to eat that wouldn't break the bank and it did the trick.

Pit Road Bar & Grill in Charlotte earlier this year as we passed through for lunch. Didn't realize it until we saw the signed poster on the wall. Only stopped because it was close to the interstate and got good reviews. It was actually pretty good for a restaurant that's really more of a side business to the go cart track inside this big industrial warehouse.

Great story, and a nice reminder that TV persona often has little to do with the person beneath the schtick. Granted, I'm not a big fan of the Guy's TV persona or his Times Square restaurant, but I love the DDD objective of showcasing non-chain places. Have been to 6-10 in various cities (some on purpose, some accidentally) and have generally been pleased with the results....The Cove in San Antonio stands out as a cool/funky place w/great fish tacos, in a city swamped with lots of very touristy places.

Been to a number of them and these stick out

Falafel Drive Inn San Jose

Metro Diner Jax

Whales Rib Del Ray Beach

Islamorada Shrimp Shack

Refuge in San Carlos Ca

Alpine Steak House in Sarasota

The owners all had good things to say about Guy and the show definitely was an asset to their businesses.

I just looked up where I live (Bakersfield, CA) and there are quite a few that I've been to

Muerto's Kitchen and Lounge (pretty meh)

Moo Creamery (nice ice cream and beer place with good food)

Mama Roomba (tapas kind of place. I like)

KC's Steak House (super old school steak house from the 30's. Nearly pitch black inside)

Pyrenees Café (basque restaurant, one of many in town)

Athena's Café (just had a pretty ballin doner pita and lemon potatoes there the other day)

Then there's this pretty shitty town 20 minutes away called Taft, an old oil field town. He went to Asian Experience over there. People love that place but I think it's average. I mean it's good for that dump of a town but nothing special outside of it.

I've been to this one several times and it is a great place. I even went to his Johnny Garlics (of which he sold out) up in Sonoma because another place we were going was closed and it actually wasn't too bad. Well except for all the bling.

I went to that place in Austin can't remember name.

Flip Flops - in a little strip mall in VA Beach. Burger was quite good.

T-Bone Toms's in Kemah, TX - Food is meh. Entertainment usually better.

They have one of those here and I think it's pretty mediocre. Recently I believe he sold his stake in it, and last time I went all his pictures were gone from the walls.

I still watch the show and admire his story. Yeah he's cheesy and become a punch line, but from where he came from and how he got the gig, it's a great story

Plus I love the concept of the show. Have been to 4-5 of the places and they haven't disappointed.
