I went in to pick up a present for someone and thought I would ask if they had any Weller green/black, EHT, or Eagle Rare while I was in there. Guy says no but then acts like he is super surprised that he has any of this Smoke Wagon Small Batch in. He is claiming it is incredible and impossible to get your hands on. So I figured what the hell it is $53, I will give it a shot. Was he just jazzing it for a sale or is this truly a good and hard bottle to find?

whats it taste like?

The cost is irrelevant if it tastes good.

I haven't opened it yet, just picked it up and won't be able to get into it until Friday.

Smoke Wagon makes good stuff. Does it say "Uncut Unfiltered" on the label? That one is tough to get and is a great bourbon.

Good bottle that's not easy to find. I'd happily pay $53 for it.

How many were on the shelf?

There's your answer!

That is the one he said he was grabbing for me but I just looked at the bottle and it looks to be the regular small batch.

Uncut is in the $60-70 range but the small batch is tasty and usually priced around what you paid. Enjoy

I like that bottle. A lot of people rave about the uncut/unfiltered bottle but I have never tried it. I tend to enjoy lower proof whiskeys. I don’t think it’s hard to find because it seems to be regularly available on their website. They do charge $15 for shipping though.

Side note: their BiB rye is legit as well.

I do mean this genuinely and not in the dickish way: there are other great bourbons out there besides the Buffalo Trace releases. I don't know what store you went in to, but generally local liquor stores are very knowledgeable of what is good and comparable. While Smoke Wagon is not distributed here in La, it is very common in other States. Depending on where you are, it very well could've been one of a few bottles.

With that said, the uncut unfiltered is the gem of the line, but the small batch is still excellent. You did good! Give the gift, and your friend will hopefully expand from the overmarketed and overhyped BT releases. Or if this was for you, then the same applies.

It's very tough to find in this area. I would have grabbed it.

You didn't get duped at all, but that's not one I seek out.

I think Wilderness Trail is better and around the same price point.

You were duped.

It’s a fancy label, but it’s just run of the mill distillate from MGP.

It's a very good bourbon and you paid a fair price. If both are available I'll pay extra for the uncut unfiltered but that's just me.

I think it’s the worst product in their line. It’s very muted compared to the UCUF and UCUF Younger which has a similar price tag.

Agree w Midgets thoughts. EHT small batch is fantastic if you can find it. In that price range and pretty available, I’d prob rather a Russels Reserve store pick private barrel

I don't think I've seen a review by that guy higher than 3 barrels.

Not necessarily. Taters freak out over weller antique but it’s average at best. Plenty of better bottles sitting on the shelf like old forester 1920, WT Rare Breed, 4 roses single barrell.

For a wheater makers 101 beats the brakes off weller 107.

Smoke wagon is solid.
