Wife and I will be celebrating an anniversary in the DFW area this weekend. Looking for the best steak + atmosphere.

Is Monarch worth the $125 pp window seating?

Also considering Stillwells, Bobs, Nick and Sam’s, or Al Biernats.

Bonus: best Tex mex for lunch?

Thanks for any help!

Nick and Sam’s

Many will say this is one of the best steakhouses in America. I've been, once, and maybe it was an off night for them, but I was not impressed. I recently watched a YT video review, and I must say that the review makes me want to give them another try.

I personally believe that Pappas Bros. Steakhouse has one of the best steaks in Dallas, but note, you can also find them in Houston as well.

Same goes for Del Frisco's and Perry's Steakhouse and Grille. Both serve an excellent steak, but you won't find a better meal than Perry's pork chop. Look it up. Seriously, it's that good. And yes, I recognize that Del Frisco's, Pappas, and Perry's are "chains."

Bob's is good, but I wasn't blown away by the food. Their service was great though.

If you're in the Fort Worth area, Lonesome Dove may be a place that you want to try. It has a great atmosphere and the steaks are delicious (if you're set on a steak).

The best atmosphere bar none these days is Nuri steakhouse IMO. The steak I had there was salty, but everyone else enjoyed theirs more than I did.

I've eaten at Nick & Sams probably 10 times and their food is always good

I would say a sneaky good place is Dakota's. Cool atmosphere (you take an elevator down in the middle of the city). Have really good "one bite" appetizers. The steak is good although maybe not the best in city. I think overall the atmosphere is good and worth the price there

For Mex Tex, try Pepe and Mito's chipotle wine chicken enchiladas. They are really good

Mia's (not Mia Coccina which is horrible) just down the street from the original Bobs. Avilas is really great too and in an old house the family lived in years ago before converting it to a restaurant.

For me, DelFrisco’s Double Eagle is the perfect spot…

Girl I was dating and I had it one time and neither of us were blown away.

It's a great deal but we didn't find the chop to be incredible.

Maybe we got a bad cut or a bad day for kitchen

It’s the Friday lunch special and for $22.00, it’s a legit steal.

I have to say, you must have terrible taste if you didn’t like the pork chop. Sorry. I’ve had it probabaly 15-20 times and it has been excellent every single time.

To the OP’s question.

My favorite steak house in the city is Bob’s. It’s not the absolute best steak, but it is very good and the atmosphere is elite. What an old school steakhouse should be.

Perry’s is another good option. Good atmosphere with a good view of downtown from upstairs and the food is good. Steaks aren’t my favorite but as mentioned the pork chop is awesome.

That's an absurd thing to say. I said it could have been a bad day but there are tons of people who say it is overcooked every time they have ordered it.

These are from a reddit thread just within the last year

quote:

I'm visiting Dallas for about a month and was told to go to Perry's. I went to the downtown Dallas location last night. It was SUPER dead. I saw maybe 4 other people in the restaurant. I ordered the chop, per a local friend's recommendation. My server told me the ribs would "fall off the bone tender, but I had a really hard time getting the meat off the bone and the loin was pretty dry. It was also all around very sweet with very little other seasoning. Did I just go to a bad location or is that just what the pork chop is like?

quote:

Every time I've been to Perry's and had the pork chop (probably 3 or 4 times), it's been overcooked. Significantly overcooked. Like 5°-10° past well done.

Seasoning is definitely unique with the chipotle-like spice.

Not my thing though. I'd rather get a bone-in chop and grill it at home. One of my favorite things to grill.

quote:

It’s a great piece of meat that they overcooked every time. It was still so damn good (and supreme when it occasionally wasn’t overcooked) and I’d eat one again no problem. I think they are always just too slammed at lunch times to ever get it right though

The majority of people agreed with you that it is good, but it's not like every location and every one is going to be great.

I could make a better pork chop at home than the one I was given

Monarch is good, but the views are better than the food. Al B’s is my personal favorite for a classic steakhouse, but love Nuri for something different.

Tex Mex - absolutely Mia’s for brisket tacos or Avila’s. If you want a little fancier with amazing food, head to Las Palmas.

If you want to avoid a chain for great steak plus awesome atmosphere, then go to Town Hearth. Nick & Sam's is also fantastic, as is Al Biernat's. Pappas Bros. has excellent steak but zero atmosphere up I-35 in the middle of nowhere.

Outstanding Tex Mex at Mia's or Mariano's.
