BATON ROUGE — Dearman's Diner is opening a new location by the end of August, the Baton Rouge Business Report writes.

According to the business publication, the new location will be a new concept that blends the diner's 68-year history with a more experimental approach to its menu.

The Business Report added that the new restaurant will feature a smaller-plate menu while the original Jefferson Highway location will continue to operate as usual.

Dearman's South will operate as a separate venue within Brickyard South's shared open-air patio. The new eatery will be open Wednesday and Thursday from 4 p.m. until late, Friday and Saturday from noon until late and Sunday from noon to 10 p.m. A soft opening is scheduled for Aug. 20, ahead of the grand opening on Aug. 29.

I went about 3 years ago and sat at the bar. I watched the guy cooking raw beef patties put about 20 patties on the grill with gloves on. Then with the same gloves on, he grabbed a handful of cooked french fries, put them in a boat, then on a tray, and I watched the server deliver them to an elderly couple.

used to be a lady cooking back there that would eat the entire lunch shift. The whole place could use a wipedown.

Is the chubby kid with glasses that appears to be a manager still at the Jefferson location? I have a feeling he may be the owners grandson.

Such a weird announcement. Brickyard is a dump and it’s nothing but losers that hang out there. Bizarre.

This sounds like something Rebirth Brands/Piazza would do.

A 4PM opening is suicide. Any restaurant downtown needs the state worker lunch crowd to survive.

Most downtown employees are trying to get the hell out of downtown and back to their double-wide in Livingston at that time.

It's a tiny brick building. Last time I went, it was giving off gay bar vibes.

No. He was a manager there before the former owner passed away. I believe David, the deceased former owner, died, leaving only a brother. I don’t think the brother was in a position to run a restaurant, so the fat chubby kid has kind of taken over. I may be a little bit off as to the proper succession, but that’s what I know.

Funny enough, it used to be a lesbian bar called The L Bar.

This seems like a strange thing for Dearman’s to do. I hope this doesn’t hurt their brand.

Greasy overpriced tasteless burgers. I think their "brand" is safe.
