Dear food board Gods please help me with vent Hood grill/filter cleaning

I have 3 grills that get gummed up with sticky grease at least one every 5-6 months.
I hate it. I hate it so much.
I take the three out of the hood and fill the sink up with Dawn and hot water.
I disassemble them and try not to slice my fingers up on the razor edges.
I wad up an entire roll of paper towels trying to get as much off as I can before putting them underwater.
I spend at least an hour maybe more with a stiff brush trying like mad to get all the grease off.
I never do.
I clean the inside of the vent Hood as best as I can.
When I'm done and everything is drying on paper towels I end up cutting my fingers at least one more time putting them back together.
Is there some magic process to make this easier that I'm missing?
That gummy grease is unfazed by Dawn.
I'm at the point I'm considering putting them into my oven and turning the cleaning cycle on.

Hot water would be best, however, if you don’t have hot water with pressure, take em’ to the car wash and blast em’.

You need a degreaser. Go to Lowe’s or the likes and get one. Simple green or one of the others they have. Fill up a container with hot water and a strong concentration of the degreaser. Let it soak for a long time. Pressure wash them after if you have one. If not scrub with a brush that can get in the cracks.
Hot water alone is not going to work neither using dawn or the likes. You need a industrial/restaurant grade degreaser.

Sounds like you have a Broan vent hood.
I used to have the same problem with cutting my fingers, now I don't even take them apart.
I soak them for a night or so, then run them through the dishwasher.
It's worked so far.
This is pretty much like the one I have

Pic. They've reached maximum nastiness again.
I have a bottle of simple green and I have a pressure washer.

Dishwasher!! Great idea!!
Yeah if I can get away with not taking them apart that would be awesome.
I don't know what brand I have.

Is it a cut down version of SG? Need something strong. And I like to soak them so I don’t have to mess much with them with a spray bottle. Soaking will loosing all of it up.
I don’t know that a dishwasher is going to get it all off. It won’t get in all the areas some will be blocked. I thought about a DW but with a PW you can get in all the areas at different angles.

I have the gallon jug of simple green.
I think it's concentrated.
Also email me. I need 2 of your finest if you still have some!

Mine get cleaned about once a month. Haven't had a buildup issue, thus far and my stovetop has a gas grill in the middle that gets used regularly.

I run mine thru the dishwasher. Use the longest cycle and hottest water. Works for me.

Sam's sells a Oven, Grill and Fryer cleaner for $8.?? for 3 bottles. Take grids outside and lay on ground, spray with the Grill Cleaner and let sit about 10 - 15 minutes then use a pressure washer and it comes right off. Done in under an hour.

Thanks all for the suggestions!

Get a low power pressure washer. An electric one would probably work. We use an electric one on all kinds of equipment at the restaurant.

A retired food-business friend of mine (RIP H_______) installed a hot-water hose bibb on the outside of his remodeled garage. After letting me goof off shooting streams of steaming hot water across his yard, he showed me the real usefulness of it.
Stuff. Got. Clean.

Cook on the grill outside. Added bonus of playing with fire...

Purple Power. Is an engine degreaser, so don't use on cooking surfaces. Soak with 50/50 water mix in a bucket then scrub and rinse everything well and/or run through dishwasher. FAQs say not to use on stainless but I've never had a problem. As long as it is labeled and stored properly your health inspector should have no problem with it in your kitchen. Edit: purple is also my floor cleaner of choice.

Here's what you do. Got to Lowes or Home Depot and buy some TSP (Tri-Sodium Phosphate). Put hot water in your sink or some container large enough for your filters to fit in and add some TSP to the water and soak the filters and watch the grease fall off.
Rinse with hot water or water under pressure to remove the rest of it.
Put some TSP in a spray bottle to tackle the hoods.
Thank me later.
