too hot, too cold, not enough rain, too much snow up north, too much rain, statues came down, statues still up and now deadly virus.

Exactly. No matter the weather conditions that year, the amount of demand, etc, crawfish farmers/fisherman always seem to have a "bad year"

Seemed like this year was good for the crawfish people and good for the consumer. Prices weren't bad.
I think some people aren't going to accept the fact that we aren't going back to .99 a pound crawfish unless the mexicans are going to own a bunch of farms who don't want a nice living for themselves and will pay their workers less than minimum wage.
Supply and demand folks. A shite ton of our crawfish are gladly sent out of state at high prices.

Yep. Crawfish were only occasionally seen in north Louisiana when I was a kid. Now they have a crawfish boil, restaurant, or festival everywhere you look.
And it's spreading. Hot Springs, AR has a crawfish festival and a couple of trailers where you can pick them up on the reg. Dallas, Houston, Pensacola, etc. are in on it.
They have crawfish festivals this year in OK, San Diego (10,000 pounds of crawfish trucked from Louisiana!), KY, Oregon, Virginia, etc. LINK

When I was a kid in the early 70's I remember my father buying crawfish at Camp Bayou Corne for $.10 a pound. And this was back when only spillway crawfish were around-no such thing as pond crawfish at the time.
But I bet there wasn't 100 people in BR boiling crawfish in there backyards back then and I can't remember any restaurant serving boiled crawfish at least in BR.

Cross contamination, how many clean everything from nets/shoes from when they go to sell the catch to going back to the ponds. Viruses are very hardy and survive harsh conditions. Wonder if anyone thought to buy live crawfish from Thailand and dump them in a pond in LA.....
