I’ll be in Dallas this weekend and want to grab some bbq on Sunday. I’m running a half marathon that morning so i probably should avoid eating a bunch of bbq on Saturday. I’m not familiar with Dallas food really, all i know is pecan lodge by reputation. What are the best places in Dallas proper (closer to downtown the better ) and what kind of line can i expect Sunday around noon? I’ll be starving so i won’t want to wait too long. Thanks all

Pecan lodge and Lockhart will be your best bets close to downtown. Probably the 2 best in the city.

Pecan lodge is in deep ellum which is adjacent to Downtown on the east side. Lockhart will be in bishop arts just to the south side of downtown. Both are great areas to walk and drink after.

If you have a crew going with you, you can skip the line. They have another line where you order bulk (can't remember the exact parameters of what the order has to be). It'll probably run you about $150 but 6 people will be stuffed from eating it and it can feed 7 or 8 easily.

If you dont do that probably an hour or so wait, but I think they serve beer in line if that's your thing. You can have a beer while you wait.

It's more fancy bbq than traditional Texas bbq style places but I've eaten at smoke right outside of downtown. It's fantastic.

Hard 8 is my favorite around Dallas, but it's not really close to downtown. Not sure what is downtown other than smoke.

A long one. Unless you're going to buy for a big family.

You’re looking at about an hour wait on Saturday. You can cut that time in half if you can get there 30 minutes earlier.

I live right by Lockhart Smokehouse and can confirm it’s amazing. I prefer it even to pecan lodge, although I also eat it way more often. Both are excellent though.

If you end up at pecan lodge, hit up braindead brewing across the street after. Awesome beers. The have a lot of great in house brews including a solid NEIPA currently as well as a nice selection of other guys stuff. Awesome patio when it's sunny out.

But don't wait in the outside line to get inside and skip.

The best way to skip the line to order in bulk is by walking in the fence-door that is on the side street and going inside to the bulk order line. Saves all of the time.

Get the beef rib. Whatever you do, get the beef rib.

Intrinsic Brewery and BBQ in downtown Garland, suburb of Dallas, is good too.

It’s 20 minutes from downtown but they make their own beer and serve brews from 10 other breweries from the area.

Their bbq is really good.

Pecan Lodge is life changing.

A year earlier, I had declared Hard 8 as the best BBQ I had ever eaten.

Pecan Lodge makes Hard 8 look like TJ Ribs.

Mike Anderson's > Pecan Lodge

Unless you like very dry sausage and terrible sides. But their fried rib is delicious.

It's one of the best BBQ places in the country. They open at 11 and if you're there at 10:30, you're fine. Or go later in the day, you're fine, but they might be out of stuff.

Lockhart never has a wait though and it's great stuff too.

An hour wait for good bbq isn't that bad. Franklin and the all day tailgate is where I'll draw the line.
