Got home & pulled out the wife-lady's recipe book. I cook & she makes the drinks. That's actually how we met. Anyway, this is a pic of her shelf in the refrigerator. There are 25 different bitters in there.

Upgrade that to Beefeater 24 and garnish with a lemon twist and I would agree!

This can work since orange of GM pairs well with rye. I would start with a 2oz rye to .5oz GM. 2 oz of soda as well if it’s a cut drink. If it’s meant to be boozy then no more than .5 oz.
From there increase your GM by .5 until you get the right flavor. Also try adding a splash of simple syrup. They probably did this at the bar to mellow it out and bring forth some sweetness, but I would add that after trying the proportional increase of GM.

I have really been loving this St. George NOLA coffee liqueur recently. Fernet Branca is always a favorite of mine as well.
HALL & OATES
1 1/2 oz St. George NOLA Coffee Liqueur
1 1/2 oz Fernet Branca
Stir NOLA and Fernet in a tin with ice, then serve up. Or... mix equal parts NOLA and Fernet as a shot.

I like Fernet- Straight up. It’s popular with the hipsters these days.

I have found the Cocktail Codex, from the folks who own/run the Death & Company bars, to be a really good resource. They assert that there are a small number of 'mother cocktails' from which the vast majority of cocktails derive. It's really interesting just to read, and has a lot of good recipes. Lot's of esoteric stuff too, which I'd never get to, but I've really enjoyed it as a resource.

Same. I think I qualified as a hipster, although I might be too old now

I am bumping this because I am trying to build out my Rolodex. I stole the idea from a blog. Pic is not my Rolodex but I like the idea.
