Went there for the first (and last) time Saturday. It was pure dog shite.
The wife and I split the brisket nachos and the smoked platter.
The nachos were decent, no complaints. The smoked platter (@$36) was garbage.

It came with brisket, ribs, and pulled pork, plus two sides (we got beans and potato salad).
The brisket was shoe leather and flavorless. The ribs were half decent, and the pulled pork was just that, pulled pork, nothing special. The potato salad tasted like it was Reese’s potato salad from any grocery store, and the beans were probably good the day before, when they were made. The were dry.
Plus, you got to be shitting me, $9 for a domestic bottle beer and $12 for a 12oz draft craft beer.

It was nearly $90 for dog shite. I’m not lying when I say I’d rather go to Chili’s or Applebee’s next time before going here again.

I’ve only been to the BR location but the BBQ there has always been subpar. I like their potato salad though.

I always stick to their apps, sandwiches, and salads which are typically good. It’s definitely overpriced although I’ve never paid that much for a beer there before.

They also have a great happy hour. 50% off of everything.

I’ve only been to City Pork once a few years ago. I recall it being just as you described, overpriced and just mediocre bbq.

What were the beers?

Their website has domestics at $4.50 and craft beers $5.50-$8, but it doesn't have their whole beer list.

A Miller Lite and some draft citrus beer. I wonder now if the SOB charged me for two beers each. We had one each. I just saw $9 and $12

In Baton Rouge if you order a BBQ plate/platter anywhere but sonny’s you are going to be disappointed. And sonnys isn’t that great but at least it’s recognizable as BBQ.

City Pork has excellent sandwiches. It’s a sandwich shop. When/if you go there you order a sandwich

The original City Pork under the overpass had solid sandwiches and pulled pork nachos but it's been years since I've been

There is a new place called Smoke Bayou in BR that is solid. But it’s only open 11-3. Appears to be a “mom n pop” operation. Best ribs I have had in BR.

Not everything, just apps and bar list.

FWIW, CP has never really been known for top tier bbq. They have really good sandwiches and their entree's are pretty unique for BR. Lately the Jefferson location has been posting some really good looking lunch specials, but im not sure if that if for Highland location as well. Plus, they are open daily for breakfast at 6am, so its nice to catch a breakfast there with the wife on a weekday or friday. OP is overreacting, imo. stating horrible food then saying he liked the nachos...they really only hated one dish and didnt like the price of beer.

Yes, one dish, that runs nearly $40. It was horrible. We ate at 5:30, so I don’t know if it was just left over from lunch, but it was garbage.
It was the worst tasting and looking brisket I’ve ever seen.
I forgot about the “andouille” sausage that came on that plate. It was a fricking hot dog, or at least the texture was.
The food was not good!!!
I said the nachos were decent, we had no complaints, but they were nothing special.
It’s basically sweep the floor food, potato chips, brisket, cheese, gravy, and coleslaw. You put cheese and gravy on anything, you will have a decent, likable dish.

This. 100% everyone goes their for their charcuterie board. If you get their biggest one it's actually a pretty good deal. It's catering to the Bocage/Country Club residents nearby.

To piggyback off the other opinions on BBQ in BR, there is only decent pork-based BBQ in the state. I've yet to find good beef BBQ at any restaurant down here. BRQ does decent pork options, but nothing in the beef market compares to what you can get in cities like Houston.

I love City Pork on Jefferson, but like BRQ, I don’t even consider ordering BBQ there. I don’t view either as a BBQ restaurant.

As mentioned, CP’s charcuterie board is the best in town.

I can't take any of your threads serious with posts like this. Looks like the people on yelp that never go eat anywhere and just sign up to trash a place. !!!!!!!!!!!

$9 for a domestic bottle beer!!! Oh wait it might have been two beers. The food was so bad it deserved a thread and I was so disgusted at the meal yet I'm not even competent enough to read a receipt.

Stick to rummaging through garbage imo

I ate at that location in February. Had the smoked salmon appetizer and brisket sandwich. My stepmom had a salad (looking at the menu it was the highland greens) I thought it was all good especially the salmon.

Eta the owner is one of my childhood best friends so I do feel compelled to defend the place

It’s my opinion, so I don’t give a shite how you feel. We eat out quite a bit, and this was the first time going there. The only reason we went was because we were passing it at the time, trying to decide where to get a bite.
We were actually heading the “The Library”, but didn’t have reservations, so we were not sure if we’d get in.
When I mentioned Chili’s and Applebee’s, it doesn’t mean I frequent these places. It’s probably been nearly 15 years since I’ve been to either.
A simple “The food was not good!” summed it up perfectly. It was dog shite.

You would think a BBQ place would have good BBQ, but according to many replies to this thread, their BBQ sucks, just as I stated.

Had brunch at the Jefferson location yesterday. Buddy ordered a beermosa for $8. When he got his check it said $12.

The waitress was also confused because it definitely said $8 on the menu and they removed $4 from his bill...but why was it in the system as $12? And is it like that for other food items?

Always on the lookout for good BBQ in this city and I'll check them out. Looked at their menu on Yelp though and their prices seem super high for simple stuff like sausage and chicken leg quarters
