I drive past this place every evening, nobody is ever there. How do they stay open?

Used to love eating there when Mr. MK Wong owned it. Hasn't been the same since. Drive to Mandeville every so often to eat @ Trey Yeun. His cousin Tommy owns it.

It was top-notch when Wong owned it. Now it's garbage Americanized Chinese. The parking lot stays empty for a reason.

Trey Yuen has sort of gone to crap as well.

The Baton Rouge Chinese Inns (his brother had the one next to the old Alamo Plaza on Florida and I think was actually the better one) were actually fantastic iterations of a sort of first generation of "Americanized" Chinese. I still dream of their old egg rolls. I'd kill to find a replica of either of those restaurants from the late 70s/early 80s.
'
New Orleans area has a couple sort of still (China Doll on the westbank, the ghetto Chinese Kitchen place on Carrollton.), but they are all kind of cutting corners these days.

Those old Chinese Inns would do everything from scratch and everything with wonderful care. I miss them dearly.

I agree that Trey Yuen went through a decade-long continuous decline, but the past couple of times I’ve gone (over the past 3 years or so) it’s been very good. I still see it getting negative reviews though so maybe I just got lucky.

I had no clue this place was an operating restaurant. It looks abandoned and/or like a money laundering front. Especially right next to the sketchy motel.

People actually go in there to eat??

Probably closer to housing illegal immigrants for cheap labor. I've heard stories of the Bluebonnet Asian restaurant near the mall.

Twenty years ago, Chinese Inn served darn good food. I haven't been in years.
