I don’t get there as often anymore. What are some top notch Cajun food restaurants in BR?

Louisiana Lagniappe
Mansur's (more creole)
Parrian's
Mike Anderson's

My can’t-miss ones:
Lagniappe
Phil’s
Parrains
Mike Anderson’s
Chimes (kind of Cajun)
Maybe Roux 61, but the others listed are better.

For real, true cajun... There are none
Everything listed is generic seafood, or creole
I been in BR for 21 years, moved from St. Martinville to go to LSU
Never found a cajun restaurant here in all my years.
Nothing comes close
Have to go back home for it, or cook it myself
Sorry

What kind of dishes are you looking for?

Robertos River Road (just a few minutes outside of BR) and well worth it.

Robertos is just a seafood house.
For some reason this board always has a problem with seafood restaurants recommendations in BR.
Like someone said above, there really isnt any authentic cajun resturants around because most people likely wouldnt eat there haha. Not many people want a squirrel sauce piquante.
All of the choices listed above are great for cajun-food substitutes.

You are better off just making the short drive over to Lafayette and that area for true cajun places

What's your definition of a Cajun food restaurant?

Yeah, maybe some of the downvoters can answer what their favorite Cajun restaurants are, whether in BR or elsewhere.

Please list the true Cajun places. We are intrigued and you didn’t elaborate.

It's not fine dining, but The Lunchbox on Moss st. has a legit Cajun style home cooked lunch rotation. BBQ pork steak, meatball stew, chicken stew, fish courtboullion, shrimp stew, and smothered pork roast. I grab a plate almost every time in town.

The Cabin on LA 22 was damn good before it closed. I would say Parrain's is the best in Baton Rouge.

Could you name a few restaurants that are true Cajun so I can put them on a road trip rotation please? Something real. Thanks!

Lunchbox-Moss St
Laura’s 2- University
Glenda’s - Main Hwy Breaux Bridge
First is Cajun style plate lunches. The other two are Cajun/creole…not much different in my opinion. Don’t judge them by the building, their food tastes like my grandmother’s (from Henderson) food tasted. Lots of other places like these all around this area in gas stations and small town grocery stores that other people from this area can chime in and add to this list. Also, Bourques in Port Barre, really good plate lunches and a great meat department and some of the friendliest workers I have ever encountered.

I see Lunchbox listed but I've never been.
There was one in Broussard by all the material yards. I believe the name was Sandy's.
True cajun food cannot be found in a big, well-known restaurant or chain. It's in those small buildings, sometimes with no sign, mom and pop run, on a no name side street, that serve different plate lunches daily based on what was killed/caught/season, and you better be there when they open, because once they run out, that is it, place is closed
I remember going to Sandy's when doing some training and many times got turned around because they ran out of food.
There was also one in Leonville. Literally just a 4 table tin building. Same thing. They cook a certain amount, based on what was killed/caught/season, and that was it
