Haystacks
Cheese straws
Sausage balls
Forgotten cookies
Orange balls
Chex mix (I've made about 20 batches so far this year)
Olive cheese balls (was a fail..I fell asleep after putting them in oven and burned/melted them. Too much damn work to do it again. I was already over rolling balls by this point as you can see.
and just for fun, Mandalorian paper snowflakes

Why all the hard work when you can buy any of these tasty treats on Amazon.

I’d completely forgotten about olive cheese balls! Everything looks great. The only thing that is unfamiliar are the forgotten cookies. What’s inside?

Those forgotten cookies look awesome, I love those things.

What recipe did you use for the cheese straws?

Orange balls or orange rum balls? My grandmother used to make the later every year.

Everything looks good. Mind sharing any of those recipes to test 1st hand?

Yes. They're so pretty straightforward. I'll post them with my comments.

Man I haven't seen a forgotten cookie in ages, let alone eaten one. Are they a PITA to make? I'd love to eat some.

Haystacks were a staple of my diet as a child.

Embarrassingly easy to make as long as you have a mixer.
Forgotten Cookies
4 egg whites
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1 cup sugar
1 cup chocolate chips
1 small bag chopped pecans
PARCHMENT PAPER!! (don't forget this!)
(note you can put anything you want in them. the last batch i put about 1/2c of chocolate chips, 1/2c white chocolate chips and the pecans)
---
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Add vanilla to egg whites and beat with an electric hand mixer on high until just foamy. You don't need to overbeat them at this time.
Add cream of tartar and beat on high until soft peaks form.
Slowly add in sugar, while continuing to beat on high, until all sugar is added and tall stiff peaks have formed.
Gently fold in the chocolate chips, pecans, etc. with a spoon*. (*ignore the spatula in this pic. this is much easier with a spoon since you'll also use that to drop them onto the cookie sheet.
Line baking sheets with parchment paper, and portion out cookies. They don't need to be spaced out much.
*Keep them tightly spaced because you'll be able to get about 90% of the 'dough' onto the tray if you don't space them out too much.
Place cookies in the oven and turn it off about 1-2 minutes later (or immediately if you think you'll forget)
Open oven next morning & check cookies. If they are still slightly gooey in the morning turn oven on to 200 for 10-15 minutes then turn it back off and check again in a couple hours. They should be dry to the touch.
Store in an airtight container for a week or two
