The new owners have been running Bruno’s since the deal was completed earlier this month. Spratt said they intend to keep the old place ticking along as is.

“I don’t think anyone should expect any drastic changes,” he said.

Spratt is an executive with Kirkendoll Management, the local company that runs Lucy’s Retired Surfers Bar and the Penthouse Club. That company was not involved in the Bruno’s purchase, Spratt said; he and Brown bought and run it separately.

God I loved Bruno's...for whatever reason when we were in young and drank there, it became our tradition to steal something everytime we were there. Was usually a pint glass.. was a pitcher one time...one time we stole the pool cue chalk. we went back a few nights later to play pool and were like..where the frick is some chalk..oh yea..dammit

Spent many a night at the old location where Redd's is now.
Would drink all night, get charged 10 bucks then go drinking with the bartenders the rest of the night into morning.
I spent waaaaayyyy to much time there, dating back to my freshman year of hight school for quarter beer.
It was the first bar I ever got into without a fake ID at 17.

Spent far too many nights in there when I lived uptown while at Tulane. I could easily walk to the Maple-street group of bars.

Popcorn and cheese fries for the win.

Ralph, bottom right still looks the same. I worked there in the early 90s.

I have a question for you old folks, was there ever a bar in the corner place across from Bruno’s and redds (not where TJ quills is)? I’ve lived on the corner of Hilary and burthe for 5 years now and nothing has lasted longer than 6 months.

Mid to late 80’s and early 90’s no bar was in that location.

We must know a lot of the same people. I was there for Shanahan's last night party. Also worked at the old Ms Mae's for a long time. Those were great times.

Longest thing I know that ever lasted there was Vera Cruz - sort of mediocre Tex Mex (meaning, likely the best in town while it was open). It had to have been open at least 5 years - must have shut down in the late 90s.

I don’t think the spot has ever just been a bar. I’m guessing not zoned for such.

I basically lived it that area from 98-2002 or so. I was always at TJs mostly but once I got a little older we would go to Bruno’s a bit more. It was across the street though.

Vera Cruz was definitely open there around '99-'01. Never ever checked ID's.

Loved old Bruno's catty-corner to current location. There was a smokeshow blonde bartender who went to Riverdale who worked there back in the day.

Her name was Liz, and even after all these years, she is still smoking hot. Saw her not that long ago, a little aged, but body still on point.
