Breakfast and lunch spots off interstate from Lafayette to Disney World.

Taking the family to Disney World in a few weeks for the kids’ fall break. Went 2 years ago and stopped only twice from Lafayette. Gas’d up at Buc-ee’s in Foley and grabbed breakfast there and then stopped for lunch at Tropical Smoothie in Lake City by the I-75 turnpike. Seeing if anyone knows of any hidden gems along the way for either breakfast or lunch.

I like Emerald Isle Seafood in Crestview, FL.
Kind of a hole in the wall about 5 minutes off the interstate due to traffic and red lights. Average Florida seafood menu, don't expect it to be as good as Louisiana, but you cannot go wrong with grouper or mahi. Their hours seem to fluctuate though. They may be closed one day for lunch and open the next, regardless of what their website says. Get a package of smoked tuna dip for the road or as an appetizer.
Gainesville may have some spots worth trying. I've looked into local places there before but never had the chance to stop. I found some articles about places around UF and some Diners Drive-ins and Drives places. I haven't yet found any local places in Tallahassee.
Also, definitely not a local gem, but I do occasionally enjoy stopping at Bob Evans near Lake City when I want to get out of the car for an hour. Basically a Shoney's or IHop.

Tasty Pastry, which is unrelated to Tastee Donuts, in Tallahassee is a good bakery and is just a short drive north of I-10, although when we stopped there once, it was only baked goods, which included quiche. As our friend above suggested, Waffle House is a good suggestion. I am not certain if any breakfast restaurant surpasses Waffle House in terms of taste. Consistency may not be as reliable as in 2020, but it is still usually excellent.

I really liked El Toreo in Ocala. I used to eat there when I worked up in that area. It’s right off Exit 350 in Ocala. Very close to interstate and prices are good.
I would also visit one of the state parks with springs. There are a number of them close to I-75. Something you won’t find in Louisiana.

Plan on leaving Lafayette at 2am. That puts us at Foley around 7am. Destin around 8am. Lunch at the turnpike around noon-1pm.

Yeah it's the best. Mine aren't little anymore but there's nothing like 4 hours of uninterrupted, no traffic road trip progress and stopping for breakfast. You're on vacation so you can eat things like donuts, we always try to find some.

My kids travel well. Ages 14, 9, 7 and 5. Last few 12+ hour trips, we’ve only had to stop twice for gas and food. I enjoy getting on the road that early because it’s almost guaranteed that I will have no traffic on the basin, in BR, on I-12 or in Mobile.

Pensacola to Tampa is by far the worst stretch of road with nothing but road to look at.
