Was in town last night and was wanting to some crawfish. Every where I called was 5.49-6.49 a pound for boiled
What is it this year? Did not enough birds land on the ponds at the exact precise temp it needed to be?

It's still February and there is a late Easter this year. Prices going to be a high for a while mate.

It's been raining too much and has been too warm. Next week due to the lack rain for several days a drought will kick in and keep them high until after Easter.

They were much higher than that two weeks ago. It’s February.

I got them for $3.99 lb cooked at Hole in da Wall in Port Vincent. They said the price dropped and demand increased, the person working there said they were expecting a bump in price around 50 cents a pound this week.

Every year consumers mock the excuses crawfish farmers give for high prices. Granted, some of it appears them changes stories.
They should just be honest. Demand is sky high and obviously people are willing to pay those prices. If consumers don’t think they’re worth that price, then they should stop buying until it drops to a certain range.
But that won’t happen. People in the Houston area are gobbling up these tiny bugs at $7/lb. The farmers are having no problem whatsoever selling their catch.

I bought a sack for $2.79/ lb last Saturday. I was highly surprised to see them coming down last week. Hoping they are even lower this weekend.

Thought same thing.
But not the case.
Not sure where you are but Nola Metro area they are back up to $3.50-$4.00 live. Called Captain Sid's and Bobby's today.

Ooh, "Easter too late". That's a new one.

Yep. Just say "We can sell them for this price, so we will sell them for this price" instead of always having some excuse for why. It's a much better look that doesn't come off like they're constantly trying to rip off customers. Higher prices are what they are if the seller can get them.
My barber doesn't try to explain to me why my haircuts go up 5% a year because of inflation and how his clipper oil is in shortage and how the plastic they used to make the combs he had cause cancer, so he had to buy a new set. No, he just informs me that his price has risen, and that's that.
I'm hard pressed to find another industry that constantly tries to explain away its price increases. Gasoline, maybe?

I remember buying them live at Camp Bayou Corne for $.10 a pound. Those were good old days. Circa 1977

One of our places we go to regularly for crawfish in Nola was completely out over the weekend. We asked what was up and the manager told us the fishermen went up over double on their prices almost overnight with no explanation why. Well of course they did.

I wish mine were boiled at that price. In Frisco, TX I ordered 45 pounds live for this Saturday for over $4.00 a pound. My wife is set on doing a favor for some people so I am doing a boil. Plus the weather is supposed to be cool and rainy. Will have to switch from beer to bourbon for the festivities.

The second page is $9.99
None of those are even worth anywhere near those prices.
