Those local gas stations always have the tater bottles. If you wanna be required to buy 3-5 other bottles before being able to buy your tater bottle at secondary prices, then go for it. A fool and his money.
You can buy blantons and plenty more at the gas station by my house, but it's $100 and you have to buy three other bottles first.

Nope. I've long been a fan of Blanton's. I bought it a lot when it was around $50. I'd probably be willing to pay around $80 for it, but beyond that, it's not worth it to me. I passed up a bottle just the other day, which was selling for $120 at my local place.
I'm just not so stupid as to not understand the concept of market economics. But you do you, friend.

If it's delusional (I agree that your assertion is), it's based on what you wrote. If it's wrong, why don't you just tell us what makes an "honest" store owner who is still selling it at around the $50 mark? Again, I was working with the examples that you provided.
You seem to be really mad that it's so expensive in many/most stores. I agree that it's not "worth" that price to me. My solution is not to pay that price. Your solution is to say that many/most store owners are somehow engaging in dishonest practices.
So give us an example of some stores where one can just walk in and pay $50 for a bottle (without being a prior customer or somehow paying more indirectly). I can't find any places around me where I can do so, but I haven't conducted a thorough market search.

This is the issue right here. Those 3-5 bottles you have to buy are from the cases of crap the distributor and Sazerac make you buy in large quantities to even be able to sniff allocated bourbons. Its a racket.
My cost on Blantons is $45 and I guarantee you its less for the big stores. You have to sell ALL the Sazerac products to be on the list...and Sazerac has a metric shite ton of stuff and some of it is just crap. Buffalo trace cost is like $17
The reason BR probably didn't have but now has BT on every shelf is because Sazerac was recently moved from one distributor to another. The last one liked to play the games the new one does not...at least not yet.

"Fair" secondary pricing is $120 shipped for regular Blanton's. If you're in a rush or want specific dates, you'll pay more.

Republic is counter suing Sazerac now.
That said, Buffalo Trace is super-plentiful from the distributor. If it is not on the shelf, the retailer is holding it back. Not the distributor.
